Day 4 Royal Ascot Trixie Daily 2019

If I have any readers left apart from Aaron, Sam, Jason and my nan I would like to apologize for Sams selections this week that has been nothing short of awful. Nah! I am only joking and to be honest at least his have got out the stalls, I actually thought I knew a thing or two about 2-year-old racing but bloody hell I can’t get an angle on these. If I don't laugh I will cry as Ascot as been a nightmare for me and my winnings from May are going faster than my readers at the minute. Anyway my selection Sunday Sovereign was the well-backed favourite who started well but faded late on, another disappointment but at least I got a run for my money this time. Aaron got his first winner and our first winner at Royal Ascot when the jockey of the moment Frankie Dettori squeezed through the gap on Sangarius and gave him a nice 13/2 winner. Sam's selection Sinjaari was another disappointment.

14:30 Ascot 21 Jun 2019 Albany Stakes 

Daahyeh couldn't have been more impressive on her debut run. The well-backed 3/1 joint-favourite was held up by David Egan in midfield before putting the race to bed inside the last furlong. The second Raffle Prize went onto win a Class 2 at Chester next time out and on Wednesday won the Queen Mary Stakes. Daahyeh looks a nice filly. Silent Wave looks a nice filly. Making her debut at Goodwood last month she was awkwardly away leaving the stalls but soon led and asserted over one furlong out, she will be a lot more clued-up today, and I am interested to see what she can do when running in a better class race. So Wonderful has been beaten favourite twice already but against top opposition, she looks like she has more to offer and with Don in the saddle. LAST SURPRISE is one of the many unexposed fillies in the race. This No Nay Never filly was very impressive at Lingfield on her debut when striding clear of Quiet Place and with the unstoppable Frankie in the saddle I am looking forward to seeing again today and looks each way value at 16/1 (wrote this last night and been hammered since Frankie got his four timer today). 

17:35 Ascot 21 Jun 2019Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes

Aaron: Baghdad beat Corgi in the King George V Handicap at this meeting last year and is now the mount of Ryan Moore so expect him to have plenty of support, Corgi comes into this after finishing behind FUJAIRA PRINCE who himself was just beaten a neck at York, that was his first start over that distance, He’s lightly raced having only run five times and it would be no surprise to see him improve with another go over this distance, so he is my selection at 6/1. Ben Vrackie is an interesting one for John Gosden who is having his first outing of the year and has yesterdays star man Frankie on board so could come in for some support yet, another one is Secret Advisor he was placed in the Queen’s Vase here in 2017 behind Stradivarius but has been out of action since winning at York in August of that year but could offer a bold show for the boys in blue and James Doyle, Joseph O’Brien has two in here with Downdraft and Arthurian Fame both of which have a shout each way but the latter being preferred. 

17:00 Ascot 21 Jun 2019 Sandringham Stakes 

Sams: MAGNETIC CHARM

In a wide open Sandringham were the top 8 in the market all won last time out. Desirous looks a likely improver as to Hotsy Totsy who represents Ed Walker who won this race is 2018. She will love the step up to 1m and the ground will suit but It’s the Queen horse MAGNETIC CHARM that gets my vote, she won a competitive fillies race at York last time out and it wouldn’t be surprising at all to see her improve enough to take this race. Adv 10/1 Bet365.

Here Come the Girls: Godolphin to take on the Might of Ballydoyle (Royal Ascot 2019)

Royal Ascot is upon us and in years gone by I was like most racing fans betting on every race over the four-day spectacle, but hey I have calmed down a lot over the past few years, now I can actually just watch and enjoy the superb racing and not bet on every single race. The 2-year-old races I will more than likely have a bet but with Ascot as you well know the fields are top class and I won’t be spending too much money. 

The Godolphin team have some major fillies to take on Ballydoyle this year, a quick look at some that look to be heading to Ascot. 

Chasing Dreams for Charlie Appleby. This 750,000 gns Starspangledbanner filly is 9/2 favourite for the Queen Mary Stakes at the time of writing. Making her debut on April 16th at Newmarket, she opened up 4/7 favourite and despite running green she made all to win easily by 5-lengths. She will have to settle better and should have learned a lot from her first racecourse experience. The second Good Vibes went on to win her next two including the Listed Marygate Fillies Stakes, the third Kemble won her next race by 5-lengths. Chasing Dreams is inexperienced I know but how good could she be? 

Current RPR 95 (9/2 BO Queen Mary Stakes, 16/1 BO Albany Stakes). 

Final Song for Saeed Bin Suroor. This Dark Angel filly is another for the mighty Godolphin team, not much to go on here as she only raced once, but what a performance it was, she looked a lot more professional than Chasing Dreams and when asked to quicken she done it in good style. Not to sure what she beat that day as second and third have not run since, but she couldn’t have been any more impressive. 

Current RPR 93 (10/1 BO Queen Mary Stakes, 7/1 BO Albany Stakes). 

Althiqa is another potentially nice filly for Charlie Appleby and the Godolphin team. This homebred Dark Angel filly opened her account at Thirsk in April, ridden by Joe Fanning and ridden out to win by three-quarters of a length after a slow start, not much form to go on but I liked the way she finished the race. 

Current RPR 83 (20/1 BO Queen Mary Stakes). 

Silent Wave for Charlie Appleby. This War Front filly is a nice type and will more than likely head for the Albany Stakes. Making her debut at Goodwood last month she was awkwardly away leaving the stalls but soon led and asserted over one furlong out, she will be a lot more clued-up at Ascot, and I am interested to see what she can do when running in a better class race.

Theory Of Time a homebred Dubawi filly for Charlie Appleby who made quite an impression when making her debut at Windsor last month. The Evens Favourite was smartly away and up with the pace from the off before extending her lead in the final furlong. Am sure there is more to come from this nice looking filly. 

Current RPR 85 (14/1 BO Queen Mary). 

These looks like some serious Godolphin fillies heading to Ascot this year and I will be taking a keen interest to see who James Doyle will be riding.

War Storms on for the trackers (Plus Reviews And Previews)

What a funny old weekend that was, first was 2/13 shot Calyx getting well and truly turned over by the progressive Kevin Ryan trained Hello Youmzain, who does look a nice horse, to be honest. I did hear the Haydock crowd booing Calyx which is totally unacceptable in my eyes if you're backing a 2/13 shot you have to be out of your mind. 

The Irish 2,000 Guineas was won by the Charlie Hills-trained colt Phoenix of Spain, he lowered the colours of the two fancied runners Too Darn Hot and Magna Grecia. The 16/1 shot ran a superb race with Jamie Spencer giving a masterclass of a ride. People are talking like Too Darn Hot is passed it or hasn't trained on but come on two seconds in Group races this season is still pretty impressive to me. 

Reviews:

I mentioned three trackers on Saturday and first up was the Charlie Appleby trained Silent Wave, this War Front filly was backed into 10/11 favourite after opening up evens favourite, it was a no bet for me at that price but was very impressive from the start and looked very professional in her work winning by just under 3-lengths. Betfair has quoted her 14/1 for the Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot. 

Endowed was my next tracker at Chester, I did have a small win bet on this Richard Hannon trained colt but the writing was on the wall a few furlongs out when Rossie Ryan was struggling to keep him straight, he looks a very awkward ride and that loser brought an end to my good run betting on 2-year-old horses.

I didn't have to wait too long till I was back in the game when my next bet War Storm (pictured) won well at York. I was in two minds whether to back this Archie Watson trained colt by Due Diligence because he was on the drift in the morning, but I bit the bullet and had an each way bet at 4/1, he was well-supported into 5/2 favourite on the off. War Storm broke well and was prominent throughout the race, I was a bit worried about the well-backed Johnston horse Makyon who wouldn't go away but War Storm ran on well to win by 2-lengths and could be another horse going to Royal Ascot. 

The Saturday Trixie Review:

First up was Aarons bet, who to be honest has been in great form but I think he got a bit too big for his boots when he tried to pick the winner of 19 horse sprint Handicap(only messing mate haha) anyway El Astronaute finished midfield. Sams selection Canyon City tailed off but at least stayed on its feet. War Storm was my first win and hopefully, I can pull the gap back a bit more this weekend, so keep a look out on Saturday.

Trust in Karl Burke (Plus Reviews, Previews and Tips)

I will start today's post by declaring my love for trainer Karl Burke, but as my mentor and friend Jason Coote have written once or twice before if you can’t make money backing Karl Burkes 2-year-olds then you need to pack in betting. After a quiet April Karl has come to life in May with three 2-year-old winners and if you were to look closely at the results you would see that money came in on all three and my latest tracker was another prime example of this. 

Bet Review:

With two trackers in the same race on Wednesday I had to make a decision and especially since I was putting my bet on the night before, as always it's a gamble not being able to see any market movers and at the minute I am playing a dangerous game, I am sure my good fortune must be coming to an end soon. The Mark Johnson trained Frankel colt Fred was too short for me, so I took the gamble and done the Karl Burke-trained Dandy Man colt Lord of the Lodge who had been given a couple of Class 2 entries but didn't run in both. 

Lord of the Lodge opened up at 9/2 (I took 8/1 the night before) and was 4/1 on the off, which added to my confidence and as with Rayong Ben Curtis gave him a great ride and stayed on to win by just under 2-lengths and give me my fourth 2-year-old winner in a row. I have mentioned before the market is crucial and if Lord of the Lodge had drifted in the betting then I would only have myself to blame. I won’t be giving up on Fred just yet even though he finished last and will be checking the market on his next run. 

Looking through the cards on Saturday there is not much jumping out at me, to be honest, I like the midweek smaller meetings when you can often find a little gem to bet on. As a racing fan I would have loved to have gone to my local racecourse Haydock on Saturday to see the talented Calyx, but as you must be aware by now it’s marathon day Sunday so, I will have my feet up resting and hopefully the father-n-law can get a few nice pictures for me as he’s off to Haydock on a jolly boys outing.

16:05 Chester 25 May 2019: Endowed had a couple of early entries, first was the Class 2 race at Ascot in May and second was today's race at Chester. 

The Saturday Trixie: 

Week five and things are getting desperate as I still haven't had a winner, Aaron is storming clear with three wins out of four selections and Sam still can’t get one to stay on its feet.

Aaron: El Astronaute 3.45 York: Front runner who won 2 big field handicaps last season at this track, also finished 2nd in this race last year. 

Craig: War Storm 4.15 York: It was a close call between Endowed at Chester and my selection War Storm. This Archie Watson trained Due Diligence Colt ran a pleasing debut at Wolverhampton finishing third of eleven behind the Godolphin pair, backed in that day from 6/1 to 9/2 shows he was expected to run a nice race. I would like to see some support tomorrow and hopefully, he can get his head in front, the danger looks to be Dutch Decoy. 

Sam:5:00 Cartmel - Canyon City - been keeping good company and Bryony Frost remains in the saddle to keep the partnership after their latest victory, making the partnership 3/4. The long trip might stretch him a bit but won a tad cosily last time and every chance they will make it 2 on the bounce. Thanks for reading and good luck for the weekend.
