Ed Walker 2Yos for 2022 Flat Season

Had a bit of spare time so knocked together a few of Ed Walkers 2yos that could be worth checking out this season.

1: WAIPIRO (Australia Colt x London Plane) Owned by Mr P.K. Siu. Dam London Planes form didn't amount to much but the Danehill Dancer mare certainly produced a nice one in the Irish born Waikiki who ran two races in Ireland before moving on to Hong Kong and becoming a bit of a star winning three group races including the Group 1 Queen's Silver Jubilee, if half-brother Waipiro can do half as well owner Mr Siu will have a decent time.

2: BEN HAMRASH (Mayson colt x Dance East) Owned by Khalifa Dasmal and purchased for £75,000 at the Orby Sales. Dam Dance East was a nice type for Jeremy Noseda winning three times in her two year career. Ben Harmrash is a full-brother to Dance Diva who was a nice type for Richard Fahey winning her first three races as a 2yo. Hopefully make his mark when the 6 furlong races start.

3: STAR OF COTAI (Cotai Glory filly x Triggers Broom) Owned by Kangyu International Racing (HK) Limited and purchased at the October Yearling Sales for 180,000 gns. A few good offspring have come from dam Triggers Broom already including the Dandy Man gelding Triggered also trained by Ed who won twice as a 2yo. Star of Cotai is also a half-sister to the Cive Cox trained Supremacy who won the Middle Park Stakes in 2020, signs are good for the Cotai Glory filly.

4: ENGLISH OAK (Wootton Bassett colt x Forest Crown). Owned by Mr David Ward and purchased for 200,000 gns at the October Yearling Sales. Really nice pedigree here with plenty of winners coming from dam Forest Crown who finished her career running a few decent races herself in Meydan. Offspring include Forest Of Dean trained by John Gosden who found his stride as a 3yo and when upped in trip. As I said, a nice pedigree here and one to look out for.

5: DREAMROCKER (Fastnet Rock filly x Livia's Dream) Owned by Mr J Fill. Livia's Dream has already produced a couple of nice ones that are also trained by Ed. Dreamloper has an RRP of 110 after winning a group 3 last year. Another one is Dreamweaver who came into his own as a 3yo and needed a trip to show his best work.

6: KHINJANI (Sir Percy filly x Kandahari) Owned by Miss Kirsten Rausing. A full-sister to the Ed Walker trained and Miss Rausing owned Kawida who looks to have a bit of class about her despite still being a bit green towards the end of the season. Kawida won Listed Montrose Fillies Stakes on her final appearance of the season.

7: QUEENS AWARD (Mehmas filly x Warda) Owned by Mr David Ward and purchased for 190,000 gns at the October Yearling Sales. A half-sister to the Richard Hannon trained Oh Purple Reign who was a decent 2yo in 2019. Trainer tip: Doesn't have the biggest string of 2yos, not one for early winners. Newmarket a course he likes. Anything over 8s would be a negative. Very poor fto strike rate.

Thanks for reading.

Saturday's 2yo Racing News (21st November)

Just three maidens today - I've given up on nursery races.

The main race of interest is the 6:30 Wolverhampton.

Interesting to see how Beloved gets on today after a fair debut effort at Doncaster over one mile on soft ground. This daughter of Frankel was steady in the market that day (15/2) and a touch keen in the early stages before finishing sixth beaten five-and-a-half lengths. Ed Walker has been in decent form with his juveniles this season and, in general, they are much better prospects on their second start. The key factor for Beloved today, in my opinion, is the betting. Very few of the stable's two-year-olds win on their second start when priced in double figures and this would be a weakness if a big drifter in the betting (seen recently with Girl From Ipanema) and failed to shine.

Beloved has very good each-way claims if priced 13/2 & less sp.

The major opponents include Charlie Appleby's Mawenzi, who is a well-bred daughter of Dudawi out of an unraced mare. The stable have a very good strike rate when starting favourite and this yard never lacks for strength or depth in the juvenile ranks.

Similarly John Gosden is a trainer who can unveil a talented two-year-old on debut and Kusnacht, in the ownership of Newsells Park Stud, has claims if priced 13/2 & less sp. The chances of winning on debut when outside this betting guide are much less and should be taken note.

Other hopes, if backed, include Divine Magic, Gwenhwyvar & Sisu.

My focus is Beloved is in the best betting guide. However, if weak I will take a watching brief.

Other maidens on the day include:

1:45 Lingfield

6:00 Wolverhampton

Brazilian Magic (2:10 Redcar 3rd November)

The luck of the Irish deserted me on Sunday and, to be honest, I have pushed my luck lately with a few nice wins over these past weekends.

Saying that, I was still disappointed as my two bets didn't even look like placing never mind winning.

I was worried about the drop in trip for METAPHORICAL and despite being up with the pace couldn't quicken with the leaders and plugged on to finish fifth.

I did expect more from KING OF THE CASTLE who comes from a lovely family who have won multiple group races so it was disappointing to see King Of The Castle finish fifth and never in with a shout. I won’t be giving up on him just yet as it took Serpentine a few runs to get the hang of things before getting a win on the board and going on to win the Epsom Derby last year so put this one in your tracker for another day.

I thought HOPEFULLY DARLING ran a promising race In dire conditions at Newmarket when getting the hang of things late on.

I mentioned a few to look out for at Kempton on Monday and was pleased with how they ran. ILZA'EEM was actually 7/1 the night before but that didn’t last long and went to 3/1 in a blink of an eye, I thought I was seeing things and couldn’t believe my eyes as I was just about to have an each way bet. In the end, I had two win bets on ILZA'EEM and my other tracker INIGO JONES who stayed on nicely and definitely worth checking next time out.

14:10 Redcar 03 Nov 2020

Karl Burke doesn't have the best first timeout record with 2-year-olds at Redcar. In fact, he hasn’t had a first timeout winner over the past four years but a few have placed so my tracker here comes with a warning.

WIZARD D'AMOUR is an expensive Dutch Art colt owned by Mr Carl Waters & Mrs E Burke.

A full-brother to the William Haggas trained Diagnostic who ran to a decent level. One issue is will the 200,000gns yearling take to the soft ground?

I guess we won’t know till tomorrow but sire Dutch Art did win on soft early in his career.

The likely favourite BILL PEYTO looks a nice type for Simcock and with the stylish Jamie Spencer in the saddle we could see one of them rides when he cruises up without moving a muscle to win easily but at the time of writing Wizard is available at 5s so a small each-way bet for me as ground concerns and first timeout is always a worry.

16:50 Kempton 04 Nov 2020

The 2-year-old racing on Wednesday looks fantastic but a day to watch and take notes. Saying that, I will be having a each-way bet on my next tracker who I backed first timeout. GIRL FROM IPANEMA comes from the Ed Walker (pictured) yard and William Buick takes the ride. The Fast Company filly is a 56,000 gns purchase for owner David Ward who also has the talented Starman in training with Ed. Looking at the result you would think she was disappointing but I thought she looked professional, maybe a touch keen, but was up with the pace and not knocked about. Hopefully an each-way bet is available come Wednesday.

Good luck and thanks for reading.
