Monday's Racing Tips (27th September)

It’s been a while since my last post and it’s fair to say the trackers have could have done better lately to be honest, it’s funny because the same thing happened last season when I started off pretty strong but the last few months of the flat season was a disaster, definitely something for me to look into when the flat season finishes. 

I do still have trackers coming through as we still have a fair bit of 2-year-old racing left but I will be betting with caution after my recent hits to my betting bank. 

17:30 Newcastle 27 Sep 2021 

I do have a few trackers in this. I had a few quid on the William Haggas runner Persist last time out who ran a decent enough when coming third in a class 2 race at Salisbury at the beginning of the month. Persist was in a bit of a barging match at the business end of the race that day and came off third best to a nice looking horse of Ralph Beckett’s called Good American. I’m pretty sure the Cheveley Park Stud owned Frankel filly will have a win on the board soon enough and today could be the day, around 5/2 at the time of writing. Aunt Bethany actually came second that day and another who could be involved here. At the time of writing the Sir Michael Stoute trained Chichen Itza has been well-supported into favourite after a decent debut fourth at Leicester 20 days ago, could be anything really and not one to be ruled out. I keep saying I won’t back a newcomer ever again but it never happens and I’ve had a small each way on my next tracker HOOKED ON YOU who is a 130,000 gns yearling trained by one of my favourite 2-year-old trainers Karl Burke, I do normally like to back his runners second time out but I’m taking a chance on this Starspangledbanner filly who was bought at the December yearling sales and owned by John and Jess Dance. A half-sister to the superb Alcohol Free who won on debut and has since won plenty of group races for trainer Andrew Balding. Hooked On You has attracted a bit of support from 7s so it will be interesting looking at the market near race time. 

18:00 Newcastle 27 Sep 2021 

Not much of interest here apart from my only tracker THREE DIAMONDS for trainer David Simcock who makes his debut here. It’s been a pretty quiet season so far for David but he has still managed a couple of debut winners. Any support for the Night Of Thunder colt would be interesting here, if weak I would take it as a negative. Has a low draw to deal with. Around 5s at the time of writing. 

14:10 Ayr 28 Sep 2021 

A couple of trackers here. Mark Johnston trained CAPITAL THEORY who brings a decent level of form to the table here. Another is a bit of a dark horse called MR ALAN who hasn’t been seen since running a nice race back in May at Yarmouth. A £92,000 purchase and owned by Amo Racing and trained by George Boughey. The form of the race has worked out really well and if the long absence isn’t an issue hopefully Mr Alan can get his head in front here.

SCHOLAR is a very well-thought of No Nay Never Aidan O’Brien colt who could be a nice type for the future. I can never be sure how Aidan’s 2-year-olds run on debut so could be a watching brief. Thanks for reading and good luck.

Friday's Horse Racing Info (3rd September)

I had high hopes for a decent day Thursday but it turned out to be a disappointing after a few of my trackers disappointed. 

First off was the James Ferguson trained Viadelamore who I thought was a cert for a place at least at Salisbury. I was excited to see some early support when backed into 8s from 20s but the money faded a bit like Viadelamore’s effort who could only manage fourth. 

My other tracker Outbreak did win nicely in the end and the Dark Angel looks a nice one for Qatar Racing who gave him as a 2-year-old to follow in my blog at the start of the season. 

Persist ran well enough in the next at Salisbury but looked a bit disorganized towards the end of the race when struggling to find a gap, pretty sure Persist will win soon. Kinrarra was disappointing after drifting before the off. 

I expected a bit more from Bantry in Ireland who only managed fourth and New York City will have learned a lot after finishing third. 

16:20 Newcastle 03 Sep 2021 

The Marco Botti trained Tatsumaki looks a nice type after winning first time out at Newmarket last month but has a win penalty here to make life a bit more difficult. I will be taking him on with the Roger Varian trained LEUVEN POWER. The Cotai Glory colt was purchased from Book 1 at the October Yearling Sales for 180,000 gns. He made his debut at Salisbury just over a week ago when easy in the market. Leuven was slowly into stride that day and rode along until staying on again the last furlong. Roger does have a decent record at Newcastle especially when under 15/2 so as long as Leuven doesn’t drift it’s an each way all the way for me, 5/1 at the time of writing. Designer is another tracker here for John Butler after running better than her odds on debut when finishing fourth at 125/1, not one to be taken lightly here. 

15:30 Haydock 03 Sep 2021 

IMPROVISE is another who will hopefully improve after running green on debut at Newmarket. The Michael Bell trained Iffraaj filly was slowly away that day before making ground but couldn’t quite find the gap and then coasted home. I’m pretty sure Improvise is better than that. A full-sister to Eightsome Reel who finished third in a Listed race in 2019 for the same combination Michael Bell and The Queen. The betting should give us some clues, if over 9/2 it would be a negative. 

16:50 Down Royal (NI) 03 Sep 2021 

Yes I know SNAFFLES Is odds on but this Joseph O’Brien colt let me down for a few quid when finishing fifth on debut at Leopardstown last month. I took a good price that day before Snaffles was well-supported. The Churchill colt was outpaced before finishing with plenty left in the tank. Joseph does think a bit of Snaffles and connections will be disappointed if he can’t get involved here.

Thursday's Horse Racing Info (2nd September)

As far as results go it was another disappointing post last week but again a few of my trackers ran with promise and I won’t be giving up just yet. Awesome Wonder was done by a couple of things at Tipperary, first drawn out wide and then when making her run kept hanging her head to one side giving the jockey no chance. Pretty sure a win will come if she learns to settle better. History put in an improved performance finishing second. Emperor Caradoc kept on without threatening at Carlisle and another that will improve second timeout for trainer Bryan Smart. Ring Of Beara won like an odds on favourite should and my other tracker Bazalgette could have a race in him further down the line, hopefully at a big price. 

16:30 Dundalk (IRE) 02 Sep 2021 

Only seven runners but a race I’m looking forward to. I actually have three trackers here who all make their debut. New York City comes with a big reputation for the all conquering Aidan O’Brien team. The 600,000 gns colt is a full-brother to Invincible Army who was trained by James Tate and had a impressive 2yo season before going onto have an outstanding career winning plenty of big races along the way. Interesting to see how the betting is and if he is fully tuned up for this debut run. Bantry is another well-thought of colt, I have in fact put this Lope De Vega colt up before and was being well-supported until withdrawn. A 42,000 gns purchase and a half-brother to several winners. Trainer John Murphy does rate this colt and I expect whatever he does here he will improve again. Last one is Anatoli who is a well-thought of Acclaim colt. It’s a difficult race for a bet with only two places and the fact my trackers are debutantes. Bantry is interesting and I may have a couple of quid win for interest but not a race to go mad on. 

13:30 Salisbury 02 Sep 2021 

You know you need your head tested when you get involved in a race like this but hey that’s what gambling is all about. Plenty of newcomers from top yards here that could be anything really so It wouldn’t surprise me if we have a few nice ones. I have two trackers here, the first being the likely favourite Outbreak who ran a decent debut at Chelmsford a couple of weeks ago when finishing second, could be any amount of improvement here and if the newcomers are not up to much will take all the beating. My second tracker is interesting so I will be having a small speculative each way on the James Ferguson trained VIADELAMORE who ran a pretty hot race at Newmarket last month. The Invincible Spirit colt will definitely have to improve to beat Outbreak but sometimes as we know the experience of the first run will bring 2yo’s on plenty. Viadelmore was easy to back on debut and up with the pace but couldn’t get involved and faded to eighth that day after running green. Yes it’s a gamble but James does rate Viadelamore so I will take a chance and hope for a place at least. 

Times getting on but two more well-thought of trackers in the 2.00 Salisbury.

Frankel 2yo's To Follow (2021)

I’m pretty sure some of you will have noted your own Frankel 2-year-olds to follow this season, but I thought I would have a look at a few and it exceeded my expectations, as the superstar looks to have a few nice types for the season ahead. Some are still yet to be named and I will update this as soon as they are available. 

FRANTASTIC Frankel (GB) / Rhadegunda (GB) 

All I have to say is “Cracksman”! Well this Frankel bay colt is a full-brother to the superstar himself who now stands at Dalham Hall Stud for a fee of £17,500. I’m sure the John Gosden Champion will be worth every penny. Frantastic is also a full-brother to the John Gosden trained filly Hopefully Darling who made her debut last season at Newmarket in a 2-year-old Novice Stakes race in a promising debut when finishing well in third and looks the type to do well next season. 

WESTOVER Frankel (GB) / Mirabilis (USA) 

The 19-year-old mare Mirabilis is still going strong and Frankel has certainly been a busy boy with this mare. Westover is a full-brother to the Group 3 Darley Stakes winner Monarchs Glen who was trained by John Gosden until 2019. Monarchs Glen won second timeout as a 2-year-old at Goodwood then ran some tremendous races the season after winning two Listed races and the previously mentioned Darley Stakes, also a full-brother to the Ralph Beckett trained Fabilis who won a couple of nice races last season then ran with credit in the Group 3 Zetland Stakes at Newmarket and another worth following. 

AIMERIC Frankel (GB) / Aris (IRE) 

Purchased at the October Yearling Sales out of Book 1 for 360,000 gns and trained by Roger Varian. Dam Aris was a pretty average filly trained by Paddy Prendergast who won on her final outing of her career. The unnamed Frankel bay colt is a half-brother to the excellent Martyn Meade trained first season sire Aclaim who won on debut as a 2-year-old back in 2015. Aclaim went on to have a brilliant career winning the Dubai Duty Free Stakes at three then topping his career off with a brilliant win in the Group one Prix De Le Forat at Chantilly before retiring to stud. 

SURAC Frankel (GB) / Belesta (GB) 

Dam Belesta only raced five times for trainer Freddy Head being placed a few times but the 15-year-old mare has produced a couple of nice horses over the years. The Clive Cox trained Surac is a half-brother to Assign who started his career with Aidan O’Brien until moving to Australia and racing against the likes of Winx. Surac is also a full-brother to the O’Brien trained Old Glory who had a successful career coming third in the Group 3 Killavullan Stakes at two and finishing ninth in the 2000 Guineas in 2019 before moving on to Qatar. Interesting to see how this Clive Cox bay Frankel colt progresses, one for the second half of the season. 

LETUSGOTHENYOUANDI Frankel (GB) / Cascata (IRE) 

This Frankel Chesnut filly is in training with Ed Walker and owned by Mr S Stuckey. Ed Walker has had a few nice Frankels in the past with Ginistrelli and Cap Francais who both ran to a decent level. Letusgothenyouandi is by dam Cascata who won first timeout for Luca Cumani way back in 2009. Letusgothenyouandi is a half-sister to Matthew Flinders who won a £25,000 Handicap at Doncaster last September and is also trained by Ed Walker, Letusgothenyouand is also a full-sister to the Ed Walker trained promising 3-year-old Navegaon Gate who made an eye-catching debut at Nottingham last season and another to watch out for this season. 

CRYSTAL CAPRICE Frankel (GB) / Crystal Zvezda (GB)

Dam Crystal Zvezda was a nice filly for Sir Michael Stoute in what was a pretty decent career. The Dubawi filly got off the mark second timeout when winning a Lingfield 2-year-old maiden. Crystal Zvezda won the Listed Haras De Bouquetot Fillies Trial Stakes on her reappearance at Newbury back in 2015 and then went on to compete in pattern races for the rest of her career. Crystal Zvezda came from an excellent family and was a half-sister to the magnificent Crystal Ocean. I have high hopes Crystal Caprice could be a nice horse in the future. 

UNNAMED Frankel (GB) / Eartha Kitt (GB) 

The unnamed Frankel bay filly comes from an excellent family, bred by Chasemore farm and a half-sister to the Chesham Stakes winner Arthur Kitt who was a decent sort for trainer Tom Dascombe, also a half-sister to Formidable Kitt who never quite reached them heights but won first timeout at Newmarket. Dam Eartha Kitt another for Dascombe and Chasemore farm who wasn’t too bad herself winning second timeout then grabbing a couple more wins as a 3-year-old including a class 2 handicap and the Listed Boadicea Stakes on her final start. Nice pedigree and one to look out for. 

HELENIUM Frankel (GB) / Helleborine (GB)

Lovely pedigree this Frankel bay filly. Dam Helleborine was trained by Christiane Head and owned by the late Prince Khalid Abdullah. The Observatory mare won a couple of nice races as a 2-year-old including the Group 3 Prix D’ Aumale and ran a great race to finish second in the Group 1 Criterium Des Pouliches at Longchamp. Helenium is a half-sister to the John Gosden Kingman son Calyx who only raced four times winning the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot and the Group 3 Paviliona the following season and now stands at Coolmore Stud for 16,000 euros. 

UNNAMED Frankel (GB) / Honorina (GB) 

Trained by Joseph O’Brien and owned by Qatar Racing. The Chesnut colt is a full-brother to the John Gosden trained Counsel who made a promising debut at Newcastle last December and a three-year-old to follow this season. Dam Honorina was a lightly raced Sea The Stars filly trained by Sir Michael Stoute and owned by Qatar Racing who broke her maiden in a fillies race at Kempton. Bit of a gamble on this one but hopefully a nice sort. 

NUANCE Frankel (GB) / Intimation (GB) 

The Cheveley Park Stud hombred has the potential to be a nice type for trainer William Haggas who teamed up with Cheveley Park Stud last season with a nice filly called Sacred. The Exceed and Excel filly won first timeout and then ran a tremendous race to just get beat by a neck in the Queen Mary, a couple more placed efforts followed in group company followed before finishing down the field last September in the Cheveley Park Stakes. Dam Intimation was by Dubawi and another who ran to a high level. The Michael Stoute trained filly got better with age finishing her career winning the Group 3 Prix De Flore at Saint-Cloud. Worth noting Intimation liked a bit of cut in the ground. 

FRANTANCK Frankel (GB) / Janey Muddles (IRE) 

Another for William Haggas. The Frankel colt was purchased at the October Yearling Sales out of Book 1 for 200,000 gns. Dam Janey Muddles never quite reached the heights that was expected after winning on debut at Curragh in 2011. The Jim Bloger trained Lawman mare ran in decent races without success after that debut win. One offspring worth mentioning is the William Haggas trained Awesometank who was a nice Intense Focus filly and despite taking a few races to get the hang of things Awesometank got off the mark in a class 2 handicap at Newmarket. As a three-year-old Awesometank began to make a name for herself competing in the top races and adding the Listed Coral Distaff to what was already a nice start to her career. Her final race was the Grade 1 First Lady Stakes in Keeneland when finishing sixth in decent company. 

MANAAFIS  Frankel (GB) / Madany (IRE) 

If this Frankel bay filly doesn’t at least win once I will give up!!! Dam Madany has produced some lovely offspring who have all won at a decent level apart from Baraajeel who disappointed for Owen Burrows. The progeny include Massaat who won the Group 2 Hungerford Stakes at Newbury for trainer Burrows, Eqtidaar trained by Sir Michael Stoute who won on debut then won the Group 1 Commonwealth Cup in 2018, Hathiq was another who won a couple of nice handicaps for trainer Denis Hogan and finally last season saw Mujbar win the Group 3 Horris Hill for trainer Charlie Hills and owner Mr Hamdan Al Maktoum. A nice family and look forward to seeing if this Frankel filly can keep up the tradition and win a few nice races like the rest of the family. 

TABARIN Frankel (GB) / Mare Nostrum (GB) 

Over to France for this Frankel colt to follow. Francis-Henri Graffard is an excellent trainer and trained the impressive Channel who only raced one season but what a season it was winning the Group 1 Prix De Diane Longines and then retired to stud at the end of the season. Tabarin is a half-brother to the Graffard trained Erupt who was also bred by the Niarchos Family and went on to win his first four races as a 3-year-old then winning a Grade 1 in Canada at four. Hopefully Tabarin will be out this season but if not one to keep an eye out for. 

PERSIST Frankel (GB) / Persuasive (IRE) 

If nice pedigrees meant guaranteed winners I would be throwing a few quid on this Frankel bay filly. Trained by William Haggas and owned and bred by Cheveley Park Stud. Dam Persuasive was an 180,000 euro purchase at the 2014 Orby Sales who won first timeout for John Gosden before being put away till the next season, what a season it was with four wins on the bounce and a second including the Group 3 Atlanta Stakes and the valuable Sandringham handicap at Ascot. Persuasive finished her racing career winning the Queen Elizabeth 11 Stakes and earning an impressive £886,000 in what was a magnificent career. 

SHOMOOLY - Frankel (GB) / Riqa (GB) 

This bay Frankel filly comes from a lovely family and possibly trained by Freddie Head in France. Riqa has produced three nice offspring already. Murafrif was the first and won second timeout as a three-year-old in her only season. Tantheem was the next and had a terrif couple of seasons winning the Group 3 Prix De Cabourg at two and going onto win the Prix De Meautry and the another Group 3 the Qatar Prix Du Petit Couvert in her final season. Khayzaraan another who bagged another couple of wins for Freddie Head and Mr Hamdan Al Maktoum so the signs are good for this daughter of Frankel. 

ROYAL VERSE   Frankel (GB) / Simple Verse (IRE) 

First foal of dam Simple Verse who was a smart performer for Ralph Beckett. Simple Verse didn’t see the racecourse till three and after a couple of runs the penny dropped and the well-bred filly soon established herself as 3-year-old to be reckoned with winning the Group 1 St Leger Stakes and the Group 1 Champions race at Ascot. The Frankel bay colt is the first foal of Simple Verse and was purchased by David Redvers Bloodstock for 600,000 gns.
