Previews & Reviews (April 25 2022)

Quick review of Saturday's post.

As I mentioned In my last post I had two trackers in the 13.45 at Ripon and in the end I did Honour Your Dreams each way at 5s, some people may not agree that 5s is a each way bet but it works for me. The early favourite was drifting which is always a good sign and Honour Your Dreams was backed into 7/2, I watched the race on the way home in a taxi from shopping, one day I might be able to relax and watch it from my own home, of course the driver was waffling on as they always do while I'm looking at my phone thinking shut up for a minute. Honour Your Dreams broke well today, quick off the mark this time and up with the pace, going well and took it up a furlong to go, despite hanging a bit he bagged the rail, cmon my son but The Twilight Lady come out the pack and won by a short head, nothing lost so it was good to get my stake back. ✅

Newfoundland was the next tracker at Navan, a no bet because who knows what horse will turn up, a good decision as stablemate Arbutus beat Newfoundland on his debut race, say no more.

Previews.

16.30 Ayr 25 April

Ten 3yos declared here in what looks a formality for the William Haggas trained Post Impressionist after a good second at Nottingham a few weeks ago. Mark Johnston has the Golden Horn colt Dubai Leader who could be nice. I'm going to try a speculative small each way on Celestial Star for Keith Dalgleish who won this race last year with Summa Peto. It's a long shot and a half after finishing eighth last year at this course. The Ribchester filly was up with the pace going well but faded pretty quickly when the going got tough. I mean it wasn't the best run and wouldn't surprise me if she headed to handicaps this season but I'm willing to take a chance she can grab a place here, currently around 33s.

18:45 Naas 25 April

A race I won't be getting involved in but I do have the Aidan O'Brien filly Emily Dickinson as a tracker. I'm sure regular readers know by now that these O'Brien horses could be anything. Emily has had a couple of nice runs to date and I'm hopeful she will put her best foot forward today because I have the Dubawi filly as a outside bet for the Oaks, I mean I need a good performance here to be honest or the slip goes well and truly in the bin. A few nice types in this race including the other O'Brien runner Champagne, currently around 6/4 for Emily Dickinson.

19.25 Ayr April 26

Breaking Light for the Karl Burke team runs here after finishing second over this course and distance last August, the Dabirsim filly was unfancied on debut but still managed a decent run. Well regarded by Karl Burke last year so interested to see how this 182,000 euro purchase gets on here against the likely favourite Espresso. A possible bet if I can get an each way price which is probably a bit optimistic of me.

Reviews & Previews (8th April)

It hasn't been the best start to the month, that's for sure, I'm chasing my tail already. Quick look at my latest bets. I think I'm going to knock these Aidan O'Brien horses on the head soon as you can never be sure if they are primed or its just another public schooling session as Emily Dickinson ran a decent enough race to finish fifth at Leopardstown, kept towards the rear and niggled along before running on the last couple of furlongs. I do have her as an outside bet for the Oaks at a big price (don't laugh).

My next bet was what I call a double whammy blow as my fancy Ingra Tor got chinned on the line by a 50/1 outsider. I couldn't believe the Channon horse was a 16/1 shot the night before so had a nice each way bet, the double whammy was when one of the fancied runners got withdrawn so rule 4 straight away, backed into single figures I felt confident of a place but he pulled so hard I felt the chance had gone but no Ingra Tor had different ideas and kept on gamely, I thought yes I've got this as I even stretched my own neck out, made no difference, the only thing that happened was I hurt my neck as Nationwide came with a storming run to get up last strides, I can't argue with that as it was brilliant ride that was timed to perfection by Luke Catton. These little things can make or break you and this race certainly broke me. Another bet I had was Australian Angel which looking back I shouldn't have done.

Had another Irish bet on Thursday, had enough of these to be honest, that's the good thing about noting everything down.

Pessoa was the one at Gowran Park, not much to say really but it was pretty crap. Keep with me here as I'm trying something different until the 2yo season gets in full swing. I have gone through the 2yo race at Thirsk and looked at pedigrees, owners, price tags and a few other things, now I'm going to try and predict a few that could run well and see how it goes. As I said it's just an Idea I may try out if I get time, I won't be betting unless I note it down.

12.55 Thirsk 9th April

Soft ground forecast here which makes it difficult as I hate soft ground with 2yos. I see Alice Haynes as an Amo Racing 2yo filly here Fix You who cost 50,000 gns. I'm pretty sure she will be popular in the betting, one of the older 2yos here, a negative for me she's against the boys. Richard Fahey normally does well in this race and has 80,000 gns Dyed In Wool. Adrian Paul Keatley has Honour Your Dreams who had an early entry for the Brocklesby which is interesting. Whiskey McGonagall comes from a nice family and one for further on down the line I imagine.

Top rated: Pride Of Yorkshire for Kevin Ryan who is a 60,000 purchase for owners Hambleton Racing, I do like this combo, if under 10s could have a squeak.

NB:Paddy Brunty runs for trainer George Boughey who was a 42,000 foal. Another who needs to be under 10s

Longshot: Tough to find one to be honest but I will throw Nifaliophobia down as Nigel Tinkler has had a few big priced winners in the past. Any price.

Don't forget this is just a little thing I'm trying and could be way off the mark.

A few trackers over the next few days, if I'm having a bet I will add it on here the day of the race.

7.20 Dundalk 08 April: Ivy League
4.30 Thirsk 09 April: Broadspear
6.00 Wolves 09 April: Storm Dancer  0.5 pts each way 80/1

Thanks for reading.

Reviews And Previews (6th April)

I know some people don't follow the market but for me it's a must if you want to keep ahead in this game, especially certain trainers, the stats don't lie. That takes me on nicely to a few trackers I had running this weekend, it looks disappointing but all the well regarded Aidan O'Brien horses I mentioned all drifted and all beat soundly, they will have their day so I'm not worrying to much as I didn't bet on any after watching them drift out in the betting.

Bets

As it's early days in the 2-year-old season and still gathering data and watching replays I haven't had one bet on 2yos yet which is very surprising for me as I'm normally trying to unravel these newcomer races. One tracker I did have from last year was the Joseph O'Brien trained Osraige who was well thought of last season. The problem was could I get an each way price, simple answer was no, I hate win bets because I hate losing money. I waited to see what was happening with the O'Brien pair, I could see they had drifted throughout the day, good sign for my filly who I felt quietly confident about, Osraige drifted to 3s, right I'm on a win bet, feeling confident as the fav My Eyes Adore You I thought was weak and Osraige definitely had the beating of her. I was actually out when the race was on and on the train. The race started Osraige going nicely, cruising along, Princess Olly took the lead an outsider, favourite beaten yessss sure Olly will tire cmon, next minute underground we go, shit no signal fuck sake, soon as I got off put the replay on and Princess Olly didn't tire at all and done enough to beat Osraige, bloody Amo Racing can't get away from them, I actually had one of their 3yos Malex the other week so fairs fair. I actually added it on the blog about 30 minutes before the race. ❎

Trackers.

17:30 Kempton

Landed a nice touch with the Mick Channon trained Ingra Tor a few weeks back, nice Churchill colt this, can he win with a penalty is a different matter against some potential nice types, hope so like.

1pt EW 16/1 2nd (Rule 4 20p in pound) +1.76pts

14:30 Leopardstown

Oooh this could go to a few here but I have one tracker, the Dubawi filly Emily Dickinson, I have noticed Moore is on Thoughts Of June who also looks alright. Emily Dickinson, Above The Curve and Thoughts Of June all met last timeout with Emily a fair way back making late headway under an easy ride(trying to convince myself) . I would feel confident if Moore had chosen her but I'm chancing a small speculative bet here on Emily Dickinson. Just going to mention Star Angel owned by Amo Racing in this race.

1pt EW 15/2  5th -2pts

15:05 Leopardstown

A few trackers going against each here so no bet, First Emperor for Donnacha Aidan O'Brien, Newfoundland for Aidan, interesting Moore is on this newcomer and Vega Magnifico for Joseph O'Brien. No bet here but hopefully a decent race.

Thanks for reading and remember it's early days yet so I'm not going mad.

3yo Raced Horses for 2022

I did start off with well over a hundred three-year-old trackers but looking through them again I’ve got rid of a good few. I have noted a few here that will hopefully get a win or two this year.

1: CHEF DE PARTIE is by Siyouni and out of Nessina, trained by Roger Charlton and bought for 95,000 gns at the October Yearling Sales out of book 2. The Siyouni colt made a pleasing debut in a class 2 race at Doncaster last september. A couple of winners have come out of the race so I can see Chef De Partie picking up a win sooner rather than later. Hollie Doyle steadied Chef De Partie at the back until making her move around the three furlong marker. I did like the way he was moving until getting squeezed up around the furlong pole before running on again. Chef De Partie is a half-brother to Extra Elusive who is a decent type also trained by Roger Charlton. A step up in trip and the winter behind him should bring out the improvement to kick start his career.

2: EMILY DICKINSON is by Dubawi and out of Chiquita, trained by Aidan O’Brien. The Irish trainers 2-year-olds are a bigger mystery than Lord Lucan. I mean he has that many who knows what to expect when they turn three but I have a feeling Emily Dickinson is better than her debut at Leopardstown back in October when held up at the back before making some headway to finish tenth of fifthteen, I’m pretty sure we will see a better horse than that position suggests this season.

3: KINGDOM COME is by Kingman and out of Monami, trained by Clive Cox. The Kingman colt has raced twice already, first time out ran green so I will forget that run but second time out in a big field at Doncaster looked a bit more professional and with luck in running I think he would have been in a better place to challenge. Kingdom Come was settled at the rear by Kirby in the far group, looking back most of the action took place on the near side and Kingdom Come only got involved late on and it was too late by then. A half-brother to the 2020 German Group 1 Oaks winner Miss Yoda. I am looking forward to seeing the 580,000 euro Breeze-Up purchases next run.

4: MAKKARI is by Galileo and out of Sobetsu, trained by Charlie Appleby. The Galileo filly has an excellent pedigree being out of Sobetsu who was an excellent type for Charlie in her two seasons racing, winning a couple of group races in France as a 3-year-old and coming third in the Fillies Mile at 2. Makkari was easy to back on debut and showed signs of greenness when slow out the stalls for her first race at Kempton last December. The 7/2 shot made up ground and stuck to her task when reaching the cut away, personally I thought she had a lot more in the locker but coasted home. One to keep on the right side of this year.

5: OSRAIGE is by Siyouni and out of Fork Lightning, trained by Joseph O’Brien. It still gives me nightmares watching the debut of Osraige because I had a bet and was in with a decent chance until Osraige didn’t take too kindly to being whipped and veered left when in with a great chance of winning at Dundalk in November. The 250,000 euro purchase is better than that and can hopefully stay on a straight line when we see her next out.

6: PRINCESSE D'OR is by Frankel and out of Fleche D’or, trained by Charlie Appleby. I really hope this Frankel filly is better than seen on debut at Kempton in November. Costing a whopping 2 million at the October Yearling Sales. The Godolphin filly comes from an excellent family including the great Golden Horn. Princesse D’or was well-supported on debut but ran a stinker, definitely green but didn’t do much to be honest. It’s a gamble but I’m willing to take a chance on her.

7: TUESDAY is by Galileo and out of Lillie Langtry, trained by Aidan O’Brien. One that went into many notebooks after a decent debut at Curragh back in June. The Galileo filly comes from an excellent family, offspring include Minding, Empress Josephine and Kissed By Angels. A step up in trip will see Tuesday break her maiden and hopefully go onto better things. A few that need to step up after disappointing:

8: UMAX trained by David Loughnane.

9: THAKRAH trained by Robert Cowell.

10: NINJA trained by Aidan O’Brien. Any others I will mention in my blog or on social media before they run. I did mention one the other day on Twitter. I had Stormy Ocean as a 3yo to follow, even though I didn’t have a bet on the shorted priced favourite it was nice to see the Frankel colt win.

Thanks for reading and stay safe.
