Reviews & Previews (8th April)

It hasn't been the best start to the month, that's for sure, I'm chasing my tail already. Quick look at my latest bets. I think I'm going to knock these Aidan O'Brien horses on the head soon as you can never be sure if they are primed or its just another public schooling session as Emily Dickinson ran a decent enough race to finish fifth at Leopardstown, kept towards the rear and niggled along before running on the last couple of furlongs. I do have her as an outside bet for the Oaks at a big price (don't laugh).

My next bet was what I call a double whammy blow as my fancy Ingra Tor got chinned on the line by a 50/1 outsider. I couldn't believe the Channon horse was a 16/1 shot the night before so had a nice each way bet, the double whammy was when one of the fancied runners got withdrawn so rule 4 straight away, backed into single figures I felt confident of a place but he pulled so hard I felt the chance had gone but no Ingra Tor had different ideas and kept on gamely, I thought yes I've got this as I even stretched my own neck out, made no difference, the only thing that happened was I hurt my neck as Nationwide came with a storming run to get up last strides, I can't argue with that as it was brilliant ride that was timed to perfection by Luke Catton. These little things can make or break you and this race certainly broke me. Another bet I had was Australian Angel which looking back I shouldn't have done.

Had another Irish bet on Thursday, had enough of these to be honest, that's the good thing about noting everything down.

Pessoa was the one at Gowran Park, not much to say really but it was pretty crap. Keep with me here as I'm trying something different until the 2yo season gets in full swing. I have gone through the 2yo race at Thirsk and looked at pedigrees, owners, price tags and a few other things, now I'm going to try and predict a few that could run well and see how it goes. As I said it's just an Idea I may try out if I get time, I won't be betting unless I note it down.

12.55 Thirsk 9th April

Soft ground forecast here which makes it difficult as I hate soft ground with 2yos. I see Alice Haynes as an Amo Racing 2yo filly here Fix You who cost 50,000 gns. I'm pretty sure she will be popular in the betting, one of the older 2yos here, a negative for me she's against the boys. Richard Fahey normally does well in this race and has 80,000 gns Dyed In Wool. Adrian Paul Keatley has Honour Your Dreams who had an early entry for the Brocklesby which is interesting. Whiskey McGonagall comes from a nice family and one for further on down the line I imagine.

Top rated: Pride Of Yorkshire for Kevin Ryan who is a 60,000 purchase for owners Hambleton Racing, I do like this combo, if under 10s could have a squeak.

NB:Paddy Brunty runs for trainer George Boughey who was a 42,000 foal. Another who needs to be under 10s

Longshot: Tough to find one to be honest but I will throw Nifaliophobia down as Nigel Tinkler has had a few big priced winners in the past. Any price.

Don't forget this is just a little thing I'm trying and could be way off the mark.

A few trackers over the next few days, if I'm having a bet I will add it on here the day of the race.

7.20 Dundalk 08 April: Ivy League
4.30 Thirsk 09 April: Broadspear
6.00 Wolves 09 April: Storm Dancer  0.5 pts each way 80/1

Thanks for reading.

  1. From Racing Post's Guide to the Flat 2022, talking about George Boughey's Navello: "...landed Chester's Lily Agnes, who will be aimed at a repeat in early May". Not unless they change the age restrictions he won't. Even Boughey is quoted as saying: "after Chester he could run in Royal Ascot's Palace of Holyroodhouse Stakes". I don't believe for one second that George Boughey would have said that. Fucking lazy journalists do my nut in. Book is now in the bin.

  2. Tell me about it, it makes me laugh on social media when racing post or other apparently top tipsters from say William Hill or Racing UK give flat horses to follow and name the most obvious horses possible that anyone could put up, really irritating and lazy, anyway good luck today Tony
