Time to go Wild for The Thunder (Plus Reviews, Previews And Tips)

Just a few trackers to catch up on before I look forward to Saturday's racing. Graceful Magic put in a decent effort considering she carried 9-7. Always prominent but couldn't quite go with the pace of the eventual winner Hot Touch. I had a small each way bet on Airbrush who was also up with the pace before weakening. I had a feeling she would struggle to last out, and I was right, pretty disappointing and I won't be backing her again I don't think. Hot Touch ran a nice race. Jack Mitchell rode the perfect race and held her up until producing her a furlong out to win by just over a length. Breath Of Joy the 85,000 Gns purchase for Amy Murphy was an eye-catcher on debut and am sure she will come on for her first run. Another one I will keep an eye out for is the Ed Walker-trained Clegane who was given a quiet introduction by Richard Kingscote and was supported from an opening show of 40/1 to 20/1 on the off. Another tracker on the day was Alabama Whitman who won at short odds.

13:50 Newmarket 13 Jul 2019: Tiritomba is a 57,000 gns purchase for Richard Hannon. I still can’t work out Richard Hannon horses but Tiritomba ran a nice enough race on her debut at Windsor behind Knight Shield. An Opening show of 10/1 didn't last long as she was backed into 6/1 at the off. Slowly away and niggled at half-way before running on again in the closing stages. This extra furlong should suit in what looks a tough little fillies Maiden with all the top yards sending out potentially nice fillies including the Mark Johnston trained Frankel filly Frankel’s Storm. Read more about her here, also looking at past results Aidan O’Brien has raced a few nice fillies in this race including Zagitova, Sizzling and 2015 winner Ballydoyle, so I would expect a big improvement form Ennistymon (NR) after a quiet introduction first timeout. 

17:50 Salisbury 13 Jul 2019: Atlantic Crossing is a 55,000 gns purchase for the in-form Paul Cole yard. Will be a tough ask against some top yards but should improve after that nice introduction. 

14:15 Ascot 13 Jul 2019: 

Another Richard Hannon tracker. I swear if these Richard Hannon horses do nothing I will ban him from my list. Anyway, Manigordo is a USA colt who was originally sold at the Keeneland sales back in 2017. After an opening show of 9/2 he drifted to 11/2 at the off and showed his inexperience when slowly away before steadily staying on the final furlong. That looked a decent enough effort and with that experience under his belt should come on a fair bit. 

14:00 Chester 13 Jul 2019: 

Dr Simpson is definitely a nice horse but the lay off is a slight worry for me. A cheap purchase at £24,000 he showed plenty of speed to be beaten by the talented Lambeth Walk on debut. As long as the layoff isn't a problem he should be in the mix at the business end of the race. My other tracker Mia Diva who I had a nice win with the other week also runs but has a win penalty to deal with.

Could this be the week that we finally three winners? 

I very much doubt it haha just one will do these days, but we try again. 

Aaron: Burnt Sugar - 3:30 Newmarket, He won this race last year by half a length when he was rated 99, since been as high as 105, but is now down to 102 due to 2 mid-division runs towards the end of last year, but those were on heavy and soft so the return to good to firm will be ideal, just seems like he’s been laid out for this race and at 12/1 for the first 5 I think he has every chance of running better than his odds suggest. (Each Way) 12/1.  

Sam: 4:00 Ascot - Beat The Bank - has very strong course form including winning this race last year off the slightly lower mark. 8 from 9 when racing in group 2 and below. Sets the standard and should take the beating. (Win) 3/1. 

Craig: 14.55 Newmarket - Wild Thunder- Richard Hannon has two serious 2-year-old prospects this year in the names of Man Of The Night and his half brother Wild Thunder. This Night Of Thunder Colt was purchased for 105,000 euros in October last year and surprisingly sent off a 10/1 shot for his debut at Goodwood in May, Wild Thunder was driven out to win by just under a length in what was a professional performance. Richard Hannon has given Wild Thunder a host of Group entries and hopefully, he can improve again against a very strong field. (Each Way) 12/1.

Mia's No Diva As She Powers Home (Plus Reviews And Previews)

It’s been quite a busy few days and trying to find time to update the many trackers coming through is bloody time-consuming but the more information I put into it makes me feel confident when deciding which trackers to bet on. As far as the blog goes this week has turned out alright but could have been better for me personally. 

The start of a new month means the start of a new me as I plan to try to step back and be a bit more cautious when it comes to betting on my trackers(not sure how long that will last, to be honest). Monday I had three trackers going and as I said a new me meant Dark Kris who was odds on was a no bet and it turned out to be the correct decision as the Richard Hughes trained odds on favourite was a disappointing second to Rich Belief. Those lofty ambitions that the trainer and connections had when they gave Dark Kris an entry for the Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot seem like a world away. He was a touch keen but should have won this in a canter. The other tracker was Cherokee Mist for Charlie Appleby. This $500,000 City Zip colt looks a major disappointment for the Godolphin team. His first run set the alarm bells ringing when he finished second to last, so I was interested to see how the market was before I bet, he drifted so that made my mind up and he was a no bet for me as for Cherokee Mist he disappointed again, am not sure where he will go from here. 

I was looking forward to Mia Diva's next run and was in two minds on Sunday night whether to take the 8/1 early price but stayed on the side of caution and waited till ten the next morning to see if this John Quinn Exceed and Excel filly had attracted any support, she had and 9/2 was the best price available. Each way bet on and ready for 18.00 at Catterick. Mia Divas first race was in a hot Novice contest, and I was pretty confident she was a useful horse but the one worry was the 70 odd day lay off. The 9/2 quickly disappeared, and she ended up 3/1 second favourite. Mia Diva broke well and Jason Hart tracked the leader before taking it up at the final furlong marker and staying on to win by just over a length. Mia Diva looks a nice filly and still looked a touch green to me. I will be looking forward to seeing what John Quinn and owners Phoenix thoroughbred Limited do next. 

Another three trackers on Tuesday and the cautious approach bit me on the ass, first was Dragon Command at Hamilton. I am sure I checked the betting on Monday night and this George Scott trained gelding was around 5/2. Even though his form was solid I thought he was a bit too short in the betting and forgot about it. I watched the end of the race and when I saw his starting price I was gutted. Next was Dramatic Sands another with solid form but was a short-priced favourite. Dramatic Sands kept on well and beat the rallying Overpriced Mixer to make it two winners out of two trackers. My only bet Swinley Forest was next and all I was thinking was if he wins I have fucked up big time and not done a treble but as it happened Swinley ran a fair race despite being keen and ran on at the finish in what looked a decent enough race.

14:30 Musselburgh 03 Jul 2019: Bill Neigh another short price so no bet, but looks a nice type for the John Ryan stable. 

14:30 Musselburgh 03 Jul 2019: Ventura Flame for Keith Dalgliesh, short again so no bet. Thursday looks a belter of a day for 2-year-old racing with some nice looking prospects on show. 

14:50 Yarmouth 04 Jul 2019: Exciting Days runs for Robert Cowell and owner K Dasmal. Bought for $45,000 at the Keeneland sales last September. Ran a fair debut in what looked like an average Maiden despite being keen. 

14:50 Yarmouth 04 Jul 2019: Iffraaz brings the best form to the table after beating Hurstwood on his debut in May. Hurstwood franked that form when beating a few nice types in a Class 2 Conditions Stakes race the other day. He disappointed in his next race at Royal Ascot when relatively fancied. Has to shoulder a win penalty. 

18:20 Newbury 04 Jul 2019: So Sharp is a 140,000 gns purchase for Archie Watson. Talented 2-year-old who will be winning races this season, market check on debut, 

18:20 Newbury 04 Jul 2019: Dark Lady is a homebred filly for the Cheveley Park team and trained by Richard Hannon. Lovely pedigree and should also win races this season, market check needed on debut.

Thanks, June! In Profit But Still Things To Learn (Plus Reviews And Previews)

It’s the first year I have ever actually made a note of my bets and from only having fifteen bets in May, I more than doubled that in June. This is a result of having plenty more trackers each day. The good thing about keeping tabs on my bets means I can try to see where I went wrong with my losing bets. I made a profit with my selections in June but I still think I have way too many bets. First time out 2-year-olds seem to be a bit of a downfall for me as Plymouth Rock showed yesterday. I will still note any trackers making their debut but I need to be careful betting on them, if I miss the first time out winner it's just tough. These are my June bets to a one pound stake. Most are 2-year-old trackers which I try to add to each post I write.

Saturday Review: 

With all the controversy with the Irish Derby yesterday I was glad I kept well away from the Irish racing with my personal bets. My opinion for what it is worth is that you just never know which horse to bet on in Ireland especially with the Aidan O’Brien horses as they all seem to either beat each other or are never fully tuned up first-time out. 

Which brings me on to Plymouth Rock who is part-owned by none other than Michael Tabor, I am still convinced this filly has ability even after a clueless performance yesterday, I did have a small win bet on him myself. First, of my trackers yesterday was Hubert and Homespin in the 1.40 at Windsor. I didn’t know which horse to back and in the end, I didn't bet on either. Homespin won and Hubert came second which was a good result for my trackers but not so good for me, the forecast paid nearly 30 quid. 

I had a small each way bet on King’s View who performed better than his debut run but was out the frame, he could pick up a small race this season. Another tracker I mentioned was Raahy who showed his class and won X Force by 4-lengths with my other tracker Cool Sphere back in third. I mentioned a 3-year-old called Mubtasimah on my Twitter feed yesterday. Trained by William Haggas, she was given a Group 1 entry as a 2-year-old but didn't run. I thought she should be able to easily beat the 75 rated Social Guest and it turned out I was right for once as she quickened up like a good filly to win by an impressive 9-lengths and the 4/5 I got was even more impressive. I look forward to seeing what she can do this season. The Saturday Trixie was awful and that's all I can say. 

Timeform Early Declaration Alert and Preview: 

18:00 Catterick 01 Jul 2019: Mia Diva for John Quinn, yes after Saturdays Plymouth Rock you would think I would be giving John Quinn a miss but the fact that Mia Diva made her debut in a Class 2 conditions race is a sign this filly has ability plus she was nibbled from 20/1 to 16/1 before the off. It was a pleasing debut to be honest and she only tired in the last furlong. The negative is the 74-day lay off, I am guessing there must have been a problem, so I will be keeping a close eye on the market before I bet, plus two winners in the field make it an interesting race.
