Ed Dunlop's 2yos to Follow in 2021

Jack Morland, Assistant Trainer to Ed Dunlop, has kindly forwarded a list of their two-year-olds for the 2021 season.

Take a look at Ed's two-year-olds from the 2020 season.

Taking a closer look at the best of last year's crop three horses caught the eye.

Lenny's Spirit who raced three times and won at the odds of 22/1 on his second start at York. Loyal owner Paul Turner had another fair juvenile in Arthur's Realm

One horse who looks a potential star of the future is John Leeper

Named after John Leeper Dunlop, this son of Frankel is out of the exceptional mare Snow Fairy. You wouldn't find a better bred horse and he made a lovely introduction when finishing fourth at odds of 8/1. I expect this colt to follow in the same direction as Virgin Snow, who is similarly owner [Anamoine] and trained and now races off on OR of 100.

Looking forward to this new crop of two-year-olds. Names will be updated as and when the information is available.

CITIZEN GENERAL: Camelot X Capriole

This colt is by Guineas and Derby hero Camelot. He is a well put-together, scopey individual with a good shoulder and hind end matched by an athletic walk. He is the half-brother to Group 3 winner Arnold Laneand is from the family of the great Oh So Sharp. He looks an athletic individual and is progressing well.

MISS CLEMETINE: Churchill X Indigo

Lady This strong, compact filly with a good hind end was purchased at Tattersalls Book 1. Churchill is a first season sire and was an exceptional racehorse himself, winning both the Gr.1 Dewhurst Stakes and the Gr.1 2,000 Guineas. She is the half-sister to the Listed winning Indie Angel who looks a very progressive type. She has a brilliant attitude and I am looking forward to training her.

STERLING KNIGHT: Camelot X Sterling Sound

This Camelot colt out of Sterling Sound was purchased at Tattersalls Book 2. He is a racy looking horse for a Camelot and is very well-built and strong. Camelot has had another exceptional year at stud and I’m looking forward to seeing how he progresses. He has been doing everything that has been asked of him so far and looks a type for the middle of the season.

TADITA TWITCH: Siyouni x Twitch

This strong, well-built filly was purchased at Tattersalls Book. Her sire Siyouni has had a smashing year with Gr.1 Arc d’Triomphe winner Sottsass and Gr.1 Dewhurst Stakes winner St Mark’s Basilica. Out of the Listed winning mare Twitch, she looks an exciting prospect.

SARKHA: The Gurkha X Saga Celebre

This colt by French Guineas and Sussex Stakes winner The Gurkha was purchased at Tattersalls. Saga Celebre is a mare whose talented progeny I have been fortunate enough to train in the past, including the stakes performing Sagaciously. This colt is a rangy, good-looking horse with a great head and a super attitude - I am looking forward to training him.

Kevin Ryan Has A Vision (Wednesday's Thoughts)

You know it’s time to give up football for good when you break your wrist the first game back after three years of not playing. The one bonus is and I would say the only bonus to being honest because no sick pay and daytime Television is a bloody nightmare, I can actually write a couple of more blogs, well at a slower pace at the minute anyway with this dam hand killing me. Anyway onto Wednesdays post.

14:20 Catterick 28 Aug 2019:

My selection is based on potential more than form as the Kevin Ryan Dandy Man colt finished seventh on his debut 25 days ago. Romantic Vision is owned by Mr Roger Peel & Clipper Logistics and purchased for just 38,000 euros in May this year. They also share another horse called Queen Jo Jo who contested Group races last year and won the second time of asking. Romantic Vision made his debut at Thirsk and was well-supported into 11/4 second favourite before the off. As for the race he was keen the first furlong and checked when making his run, after that never nearer. It’s a gamble but one I Am willing to take and hopefully come post time all eight are still running.

Ruby Wonder is another tracker who has a chance and was well-thought-of by trainer David O’Meara who ran this Swiss Spirit filly in the Marygate Listed Fillies Stakes at York in May. Ruby Wonder was outclassed and this is more her level but has she regressed? We will see.

17:55 Kempton 28 Aug 2019:

Three trackers in this one so could be just a race to watch and enjoy. I will start with Virgin Snow for the Ed Dunlop yard. The Gleneagles filly made her debut at Doncaster at the back end of July. Nibbled at from 20/1 to 16/1 before the race she looked professional and knew her job, she kept on without threatening the winner. I am sure she will know more this time and could have each-way claims against the market principles here.

National Treasure is very highly thought of by trainer Charlie Appleby. Make no mistake that was a pretty decent debut from this Camelot filly at Newmarket. Always up with the pace, the 500,000 euro purchase just couldn't get past the exciting John Gosden winner Waasyef and even got collared by stablemate Alpen Rose on the line. A lovely looking horse for the future and should improve with distance.

Sir Michael Stoute looks to also have a nice filly in the name of Tanita. A superbly homebred Frankel filly looked to have put her debut race to bed at Kempton 23 days ago only to run out of steam the last few strides. She drifted out to 9/2 that day and may have needed that run. A step up to a mile and just over three weeks break may bring out more improvement for this well-thought-of Frankel filly.

Good luck and thanks for reading.
