All You Wish Romps Home At 33/1 (Plus Previews And Reviews)

All You Wish Romps Home For The Trackers.

Not a bad day on Wednesday when short-priced favourite Convict showed his class and finally got a much-deserved win for William Haggas and another one for my eye-catchers. Anastarsia ended up drifting to an unbelievable 3/1, considering she has a Group 1 fillies mile entry the 3/1 was a great price.

Last but definitely not least was a couple I mentioned on my Twitter page on Wednesday morning because, to be honest, I didn't even notice them until my last post was already uploaded. Herman Hesse was the first for John Gosden and looked like he got stuck in the mud the last furlong and could only manage fourth. I was looking for some market support on Andrew Balding's All You Wish before deciding to bet or not but it didn't come, I had a small each-way anyway and luckily he won at 33/1 and it was happy days.

Thursday I couldn’t see much of interest apart from a speculative bet on the Tim Easterby colt Brazen Point. Never involved on debut and a Class 2 entry to his name I thought a couple of quid each way at 14/1 was worth a chance. The money came in as Brazen Point was hammered into 3/1 second favourite only to finish a close fourth and just outside the money.

15:50 Haydock 28 Sep 2019: Winner £6,469 - 7 declared to run.

Tracker: Emaraty Hero.

Eye-Catcher: Pot Of Paint.

It's a shame only seven go to post here and I can only get two places, anyway, not a bad race to get stuck into.

Bottom Bay put up a pretty professional display on his debut race at Leicester 19 days ago. The Michael Bell homebred colt was unfancied and went off 33/1. You wouldn’t have thought so by this display as the Oasis Dream colt broke smartly and knew his job straight away. Callum Shepherd looked to be in with a chance of winning until the last half-furlong when he couldn't quite challenge the leaders. Bottom Bay should come on plenty for that experience and has a leading chance.

Damage Control for Andrew Balding. No significant entries for this Zoffany colt who made his debut at Salisbury three weeks ago. The 65,000 gns purchase was given quiet introduction by jockey William Buick. The race has a bit of depth to it with Max Vega, Shandoz and Khalifa Sat all winning since. The market should be the key here to his chances.

Emaraty Hero comes here with a big reputation. The Karl Burke trained Lope De Vega colt was purchased for 55,000 gns by owner Ahmad Al Shaikh last October. Interesting to see which way he goes in the market on debut.

Embolden sets the standard for Richard Fahey but things didn’t fall for him at Chester and need to bounce back. Could be vulnerable to a promising type.

Pot Of Paint went onto my eye-catcher list after making his debut in the Class 2 Convivial Maiden Stakes race at York in August. The Tom Dascombe New Approach colt went off at 66/1 shot for his first experience on a racetrack. Pot Of Paint was kept at the back by Richard Kingscote before he weaved his way through beaten horses to finish strongly into fourth place. That was an excellent run considering he was at the back until a few furlongs out and the form of the winner looks rock solid.

You Owe Me is a 90,000 gns purchase for Paul and Clare Rooney. The Mark Johnston trained Champs Elysees colt has a nice pedigree and worth a market check on debut.

Conclusion:

When I first saw the race I was thinking my eye-catcher Pot Of Paint looks a nice bet but after looking through it I think all the horses that run have a chance of improving and could be involved in the shakeup. To make it a bit tougher we have some potentially nice newcomers and also forecast heavy going after a fair bit of rain up north. The market is worth checking for sure and if pushed I might just do a small split stake on my eye-catcher Pot Of Paint and my tracker Emaraty Hero. A race to enjoy and not go mad because of the heavy going. Just to note to say I have a Facebook Group now just in case I miss any horses in my posts. Click the link on this page and come and join me. Good luck and thanks for reading.

Convict Hoping To Make Amends (Plus Previews)

13:15 Redcar 25 Sep 2019.

British EBF Future Stayers Maiden Stakes. Plus 10 | Class 4 | 2YO only. Winner £10,350 - 11 declared to run.:

Tracker: Bentley Wood.

Eye-Catcher: Convict.

A couple of horses that I have noted here in what looks a tricky contest. First up is the Mick Channon trained, owned and bred Sixties Icon colt Bentley Wood. Mick Channon had given Bentley Wood an entry in Class 2 Peter Willett Maiden Stakes at Goodwood in August, but he never ran. His debut race was in fact at Carlisle early this month and even though he wasn't fancied at 22/1 it was a race full of promise. It wasn't the strongest race but the winner Strawman and Bentley Wood had it between them at the finish. It looks like being soft going tomorrow with the amount of rain around the country at the minute and Bentley Wood should relish the going.

I added Convict to my eye-catcher list after a promising debut at Newbury back in August. The William Haggas trained Australia colt is a half brother to the exciting Hamish also trained by William Haggas. Convict was slowly away on debut until staying on well without threatening the eventual winner Quadrilateral who won a nice Class 2 Conditions race next start and an exciting filly for Roger Charlton. Everything was set up for a good run next start from Convict and I have to admit I had a few quid on. What I wasn't expecting after a furlong was jockey Danny Tudhope to lose his irons after Convict stumbled on the path and the jockey looking more like a rodeo star. I guess that's the gamble you take and these things happen. He was well-supported that day which was a good sign and hopefully I can get an each-way price tomorrow and get a run for my money at least. We also have Talap who tries the cheekpieces after a disappointing run last time out and a Mark Johnston newcomer who needs a market check on debut.

18:15 Newcastle 25 Sep 2019:

Designs Signage Ebf Novice Stakes. Class 5 | 2YO only Winner £3,752 - 7 declared to run.

Tracker: Anastarsia.

Eye-Catcher: Crystal Pegasus.

I noted the Michael Stoute trained Crystal Pegasus as an eye-catcher at the start of this month after a promising debut at Ascot. Crystal Pegasus is a half-brother to Crystal Hope who won second time out at 14/1. Ryan Moore gave Crystal Pegasus a nice enough ride, and he stayed on well-behind the John Gosden trained Enemy. The extra distance should bring out more improvement from the Australia colt. He won't have it all his own way though because we have a serious rival in the name of Anastarsia. The John Gosden Sea The Stars filly has a Group 1 fillies mile entry and we all know how John Gosden loves a 2-year-old winner at Newcastle. I won't be betting on this race, I think it's one to enjoy and just watch.

Good luck and thanks for reading.

Weekly 2-Year-Old- Eye-Catchers (Monday 2nd-Sunday 8th September Part 2)

18:10 Kempton 06 Sep 2019:

It's no secret that John Gosden's 2-year-olds are flying at the minute and my next tracker would have gone into many peoples notebooks after a promising debut at Kempton. Byzantine Empire is a beautifully bred Golden Horn colt who is owned and bred Rachel D S Hood. He is a half brother to Richard Pankhurst who won the Listed Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot as a 2-year-old. Byzantine Empire was 3/1 second-favourite for his debut but fell out of the stalls and lost a good few lengths before steadily catching up and finishing like a train, I think he would have won that day but for the slow start and I can see him being a lot more streetwise next timeout.

19:10 Kempton 06 Sep 2019.

Another John Gosden beauty here and if Donnybrook is not odds on next timeout I will eat my hat. Donnybrook was purchased for 900,000 euros as a yearling by Godolphin last year. The Invincible Spirit filly wore a hood first timeout which was a bit of a worry and probably reflected in her price on debut. Despite that being a negative she still ran a promising race and looks a decent prospect for the John Gosden team. Rob Halvin had a job trying to settle her the first few furlongs as she was very keen but once she got the hang of things she picked up beautifully and almost got up in the last strides. Donnybrook looks a big athletic type and it will be interesting where John Gosden sends her next. The one negative was how keen she was on debut and hopefully, she won't waste so much energy next timeout.

15:50 Newcastle 06 Sep 2019:

Am not sure how strong this race was but the winner Ascension has won twice now. The horse that caught my eye was the Karl Burke trained Gravity Force who is a 45,000 gns Fountain Of Youth colt. Gravity Force was purchased in 2017 and is owned by Bearstone Stud Limited. He made a promising debut at Newcastle last week but jockey Clifford Lee had to earn his pay because he was hard at work from the word go. Normally you can tell when Karl Burke has a nice horse as the money comes in but it was the opposite here as Gravity Force drifted to 12/1. Even though Gravity Force took a while to get going he sprouted wings a couple of furlongs out and finished full of running. One to note next timeout but as I said not sure how deep this race was.

13:35 Ascot 07 Sep 2019:

Zegalo was a pretty big price on debut for Roger Varian. The Zoffany homebred colt made a pleasing debut at Ascot on Saturday. The 16/1 shot looked professional and knew his job straight away. I did like the way Zegalo travelled, and he looks a nice relaxed type. Jockey Charlie Bennett urged Zegalo to get a bit closer a couple of furlongs out, the response was not immediate but he stayed on nicely in the final half-furlong. Zegalo should pick up a race in the near future.

15:25 York 08 Sep 2019:

I can't finish without mentioning Convict who stays on my eye-catches list despite Danny Tudhope losing his irons after Convict stumbled on the path. It was a miracle Danny stayed in the saddle but even though I lost a few quid on this It did look funny they way he finished off the race and ended up looking like a rodeo star. One definitely worth keeping an eye out for after being well-supported in the betting.

LATEST EYE-CATCHERS RESULTS:

Band Practice: won 11/4. Nice type who will be racing at a higher class soon.

Single: Unplaced 7/4. Disappointing effort and looks to have limited ability.

Convict: Unplaced 2/1. Travelling well until stumbled on the path and jockey lost his irons.

Stays on the list.

Pocket Square: won 9/4. Looks a nice type for Roger Charlton.

Panic Room: won 5/2: Easy winner at Haydock for Tom Dascombe.

Handlebars Unplaced:11/4: Limited.

Thanks for reading and good luck.

Weekly 2-year-old Eye-catchers (Monday 12 - Sunday 18th August)

18:00 Windsor 12 Aug 2019:

Clegane has had two runs for trainer Ed Walker. To be honest, this daughter of Iffraaj hasn't done anything wrong on both starts. Market support on her debut run, she looked professional enough when staying on to finish sixth to Hot Touch. Her latest run on Monday night at Windsor was also a race full of promise. Having the worst draw in stall one, Clegane was slowly away and stuck at the back before making headway and finishing a never nearer sixth. A bit more luck next timeout should see this filly in with a chance to land the spoils.

14:30 Beverley 14 Aug 2019:

Wise Glory looked clueless on debut and despite the market support this Muhaarar colt definitely needed the experience. Simon Crisfords homebred colt was poorly drawn and always behind until staying on to snatch third despite looking awkward for most of the race. No significant entries as yet. I will be interested to see his next run and wouldn't be surprised to see him step up to a mile next time out.

14:00 Beverley 15 Aug 2019:

Band Practice has been unlucky on both her runs so far this season. The Archie Watson filly made her debut at Lingfield against the highly-rated Al Raya. Considering that was her first run she showed a lot of promise that day when only beaten just over 3 lengths. Band Practice looked to be in with a shout at Beverley on Thursday only for the saddle to slip and that was the end of that. Well-supported that day I think she would have definitely gone close and to add to the confidence behind her she has been given a Cheverly Park Group 1 Stakes entry. The Clipper Logistics chestnut filly is one to follow this season.

13:50 Salisbury 15 Aug 2019:

Single is another bargain-basement buy for owner and trainer Mick Channon, who cost just 5,000 gns. Some late support for this Nathaniel filly at Salisbury on debut. Despite looking green David Egan gave her a lovely introduction to the racecourse and late progress makes her a filly to look out for next timeout.

13:50 Newbury 16 Aug 2019:

Convict made a pleasing debut for trainer William Haggas. The starting price of Convict reflected on his chances but this chestnut Australia colt fell out the stalls. Kept at the back for most of the race by Richard Kingscote until making late progress the final furlong. I will definitely be looking out for this Derby entry and a step up in trip will see him get his head in front soon enough.

13:40 Doncaster 17 Aug 2019:

Ruby Shield is a 2-year-old War Front bay filly owned by Richard Henry and trained by Richard Fahey. Ruby Shield made a pleasing debut in a Doncaster 1 mile Maiden Fillies Stakes race yesterday. She was keen early on before settling at the halfway point before gradually staying on without threatening the well-thought-of Alpen Rose. Hopefully, she can improve the next timeout and pick up a small race.

Thanks for reading and keep a lookout for next week's eye catches to follow.
