Man Of Promise, On Guard, Magical Morning, Fiesta De Vega, Creative Force, Inhaler, and Renaissance Queen all nice winners for the blog the past week, let's hope a few more nice types come out my horses to follow this season.
12:15 Sat 13 June 2020 Newbury
Interesting little race this with the favourite likely to be the John Gosden trained Kingman colt Tsar. The form doesn't look anything special but with winter behind him any amount of improvement is possible. A couple of interesting trackers in the race are Lord Campari and Turaath.
Lord Campari is also a Kingman colt out of 98 rated Blanche Dubawi and cost 350,000 gns. The Roger Varian trained March foal contested a pretty hot contest in August last year with another Gosden horse Palace Pier winning impressively then going on to win next timeout and making a huge statement for the season ahead when winning a Class 2 Handicap at Newcastle with ease last week. Lord Campari was a no near sixth when they met but despite being a touch keen Lord Campari stayed on steadily and the extra distance will hopefully bring improvement to be involved at the finish.
Turaath would have to improve dramatically here to figure after not showing much on debut at Leicester last September. The Charlie Hills Oasis Dream filly takes on the boys here but is well-bred being out of 110 rated mare Fahdhayyil. A bit clueless on debut I would have liked to see her in an easier race than this and a market check is needed here.

Most of the top yards turn up for this Maiden Stakes race at Sandown. We have a Gosden newcomer, a Varian Irish Derby entry but I’m giving Gosden's other runner Byzantine Empire a final chance after finishing a pleasing third on his comeback race at Newcastle two weeks ago. The Golden Horn colt is a half-brother to Crazy Horse and Richard Pankhurst who both ran to a decent level under the guidance of John Gosden and hopefully, Robert Halvin can guide Byzantine Empire home here at Sandown.

Cosa Orga is another who is on last chance saloon here after another no show last timeout. One positive thing is this looks a slightly easier race than the Golden Horn colt contested at Yarmouth the last timeout when having his first run for new trainer William Haggas. I will have a minimal stake and hope for the best for a place at least.

Nice days racing on Sunday and my next two trackers I guess will be short so no bets but two I've been looking forward to seeing for a good while now and hope they both run well.
Althiqa made a favourable impression when making her debut at Thirsk in April last year. The Dark Angel Charlie Appleby runner has had wind surgery and hasn't been seen since her winning the fillies Maiden, hopefully, Althiqa can win here and go onto better things if her long absence isn't a problem and she has no issues.

Any regular readers of the post will know I have waited a while for Do You Love Me to run for Karl Burke and owners Phoenix Thoroughbred Limited. The well-thought-of Galileo filly makes her debut in what looks a tough little contest but hopefully, she can do herself justice first time out here.

I had mixed feelings after watching the 2-year-old Ffos Las race I previewed on Sunday, Why? Because for some reason Instead of backing both of my fancies Night Colours and Fashion Royalty I just backed Fashion Royalty each way. Even when the support came for Night Colours as the race approached I still didn't bother to go back the bookmakers. I had somebody on social media ask me why I don’t have an account online and I guess it would definitely be better for me as I like to watch the market movers as they happen but the negative would be me chasing bets if I don't really have the money, maybe one day I will change my mind.
I guess I didn't expect all three I mentioned to have a chance at the business end of the race, but they did and Night Colours quickened up to win in style. It was a lovely performance by the Simon Crisford filly and as for Fashion Royalty it was also a much-improved performance and could pick up a race soon. I didn't back the winner personally but I hope somebody who reads the blog might have had a couple of quid on.

British Stallion Studs EBF Novice Stakes:
A tasty little race here with a few potentially nice colts, I will mention a few that have raced.
Byzantine Empire for the all-conquering John Gosden team. It's no secret that John Gosden's 2-year-olds are flying at the minute and Byzantine Empire is a beautifully bred Golden Horn colt who is owned and bred Rachel D S Hood. He is a half brother to Richard Pankhurst who won the Listed Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot as a 2-year-old. Byzantine Empire was 3/1 second-favourite for his debut but fell out of the stalls and lost a good few lengths before steadily catching up and finishing like a train. Should be more clued-up today looks to have a good chance of being in the mix. (Eye-Catcher)
Never Alone is nicely bred Charlie Appleby colt who made an impressive debut in what looked like a hot little contest, but it was all about the other Charlie Appleby colt Royal Crusade at Newmarket that day who looks top class after a tidy win.
Never Alone is a 1,200,000 gns Dubawi colt who despite going right out of the stalls, looked professional and knew his job. Brett Doyle gave Never Alone a nice introduction and the extra distance should bring out more improvement. (Eye-Catcher)
Finest Sound was a big price on his debut here three weeks ago. The Simon Crisford colt was well put in his place by the exciting John Gosden Palace Pier who by the way has a Group 1 Dewhurst entry. That was a really nice performance and looks a horse worth following.
Heaven Forfend comes here with the best form and is a worthy favourite for Michael Stoute and the Cheveley Park Team. The Frankel colt should be a big player here after finishing a creditable sixth in the Chesham Stakes at Ascot last timeout. Ridden along and looking one pace until the final few furlongs when Oisin Murphy got a tune out of Heaven Forfend and stayed on steadily.
Conclusion: When I saw Never Alone running I was expecting to have a nice bet but there's a lot of potential on show here and even the unraced Andrew Balding colt is worth a market check. I will wait to see the market settle and see if I can get an each-way on Never Alone.

This looks like a nice opportunity for Maqtal to get off the mark here. The Roger Varian trained homebred colt ran a promising debut at Doncaster back in July. The winner that day was the Richard Fahey trained Valdernoro who had since gone on to win the Group 3 Acomb Stakes at York. Maqtal could improve any amount after his debut but such a short price is no bet for me. It could be a mistake even mentioning Anglo Saxson here but the Charlie Fellows gelding who cost £70,000 looked to get the hang of things late on in his last race at Brighton. Will have to hope that a few of the nice newcomers disappoint here to grab a place,

Another John Gosden beauty here and if Donnybrook is not odds on next timeout I will eat my hat. Donnybrook was purchased for 900,000 euros as a yearling by Godolphin last year. The Invincible Spirit filly wore a hood first timeout which was a bit of a worry and probably reflected in her price on debut. Despite that being a negative she still ran a promising race and looks a decent prospect for the John Gosden team. Rob Halvin had a job trying to settle her the first few furlongs as she was very keen but once she got the hang of things she picked up beautifully and almost got up in the last strides. Donnybrook looks a big athletic type and it will be interesting where John Gosden sends her next. The one negative was how keen she was on debut and hopefully, she won't waste so much energy next timeout.

Am not sure how strong this race was but the winner Ascension has won twice now. The horse that caught my eye was the Karl Burke trained Gravity Force who is a 45,000 gns Fountain Of Youth colt. Gravity Force was purchased in 2017 and is owned by Bearstone Stud Limited. He made a promising debut at Newcastle last week but jockey Clifford Lee had to earn his pay because he was hard at work from the word go. Normally you can tell when Karl Burke has a nice horse as the money comes in but it was the opposite here as Gravity Force drifted to 12/1. Even though Gravity Force took a while to get going he sprouted wings a couple of furlongs out and finished full of running. One to note next timeout but as I said not sure how deep this race was.

Zegalo was a pretty big price on debut for Roger Varian. The Zoffany homebred colt made a pleasing debut at Ascot on Saturday. The 16/1 shot looked professional and knew his job straight away. I did like the way Zegalo travelled, and he looks a nice relaxed type. Jockey Charlie Bennett urged Zegalo to get a bit closer a couple of furlongs out, the response was not immediate but he stayed on nicely in the final half-furlong. Zegalo should pick up a race in the near future.

I can't finish without mentioning Convict who stays on my eye-catches list despite Danny Tudhope losing his irons after Convict stumbled on the path. It was a miracle Danny stayed in the saddle but even though I lost a few quid on this It did look funny they way he finished off the race and ended up looking like a rodeo star. One definitely worth keeping an eye out for after being well-supported in the betting.

Band Practice: won 11/4. Nice type who will be racing at a higher class soon.
Single: Unplaced 7/4. Disappointing effort and looks to have limited ability.
Convict: Unplaced 2/1. Travelling well until stumbled on the path and jockey lost his irons.
Stays on the list.
Pocket Square: won 9/4. Looks a nice type for Roger Charlton.
Panic Room: won 5/2: Easy winner at Haydock for Tom Dascombe.
Handlebars Unplaced:11/4: Limited.
