Beechwood Donna Flies Home for Ontoawinner Syndicate

In my post yesterday I had two throws of the dart as I had two trackers in the 2-year-old race at Beverley. My post title was Olivia Brend for Gay Kelleway who dwelt and then made up ground until disappointingly fading to near last. My next dart was the Ontoawinner and Mrs. J Ryan owned Hot Streak filly Beechwood Donna who hit the bullseye first time of asking in what was a professional and impressive debut. 

My next tracker Frankenstella put up an improved performance in the 3-year handicap to finish second without looking like getting near the impressive Warranty for Mark Johnston.

It was nice to see one of my 3-year-olds to follow Sparkling Olly win at Chepstow. I was pretty disappointed in her performance last time out but a change of trainer and starting in handicap company saw the necessary improvement to get the first win on the board. 

12:30 Newbury 18 Jul 2020 Saturday 

Cosmic Princess The 3-year-old filly went into my trackers with an eye-catching performance in her only race at Kempton last October. Hollie Doyle steadied Cosmic Princess at the start and the 33/1 outsider was given a learning process before running on late to finish six behind some promising types from the big yards. The third that day was Shimmering for John Gosden who easily won her next race at Lingfield, the sixth Almareekh has also won for Michael Stoute and the tenth Crispina won at Pontefract last month for Ralph Beckett. A step up in trip could see further improvement and hopefully, she will be there or thereabout at the finish.

Now I’m sure by now you know how much I love my 2-year-old racing, I spend many hours looking through races, stats and declarations to see if I can spot anything, but although the weekend's 2-year-old races look top class with so many potential smart horses ready for their racecourse debut it looks a punters nightmare, I think I have half of them as trackers. I will just mention two. 

I noted Rushmore as a horse to follow in my post back in February with the impressive July Stakes and Windsor Castle winner Tactical, could lightning strike twice? We will see. Rushmore was an expensive purchase at 500,000 gns by purchaser David Redvers Bloodstock for Qatar Racing Limited and is trained by Andrew Balding. Half-brother to Mrs. Sippy who won a Listed event in France and was trained by David Simcock before moving to America and winning the Group 2 Glen Falls Stakes as a 4-year-old. The betting should be the key here. 

Another Andrew Balding horse I noted as an eye-catcher is Calcutta Cup who was thrown in at the deep end in the Woodcote Stakes at Epsom, the 100,000 euro purchase was slowly away that day and always behind but I’m sure the Territories colt is better than but this could also be a high standard 2-year-old race. 

Plenty of 2-year-old races to watch back closely this weekend so keep an eye out for my next 2yos to follow post.

12:00 Beverley: Olivia Brend for Gay Kelleway (17th July)

It’s been a quiet time of late, even with the amount of 2-year-old races it’s been hard trying to find any trackers to add to a post. A quick update on a few trackers that have run the past week or so. The Charlie Appleby trained Declaring Love is a horse I had been waiting a while for and had a host of top entries last year but a long layoff was a worry. I thought she ran a nice race to finish second but was no match for easy and impressive winner Stunning Beauty who quickened up nicely. Fast Emma was an eye-catcher a few weeks back but took a huge drift at Ripon on Tuesd
ay and the writing was on the wall a furlong to go when fading badly. I wrote about the Ralph Beckett trained Zoffarelli a few weeks back, but he was declared a non-runner that day, hopefully, a few eagle-eyed readers noticed the Zoffany colt entered at Windsor on Monday. I was surprised to see him a 25/1 shot but definitely outrun them odds when making a promising debut to finish second to Zammani and should come on plenty for that run.

A couple of trackers in this one first is Beechwood Donna who is owned by Ontoawinner and Mrs. J Ryan who had a winner with Star Of Emaraaty recently. The Kevin Ryan trained Hot Streak filly has an eye-catching pedigree and I will definitely be checking the market as Kevin Ryan has a decent win strike rate with 2yos under 9/2 on debut. Olivia Brend is a Sir Prancealot filly trained by Gay Kelleway who was a cheap purchase at the 2019 Silver Yearling Sale when purchased for £ 3,500. Thrown in at the deep end in the Betway Empress Fillies Listed race at Newmarket Olivia Brend stayed in the race until class showed a furlong to go and was left behind, I would like to think this drop-in class plus a run under her belt she will be more competitive here.

I was looking forward to Frankenstella last timeout and was hoping for a good run at Wolverhampton but looked a bit one-paced and disappointing, to be honest. The 480,000 euro purchase takes a significant step up in distance here and needs to show a lot more for the John Quinn team. 

19:55 Haydock 17 Jul 2020 

Future King is a Dark Angel colt for Saaed Bin Suroor who costs 300,000 gns as a yearling. Dam Relation Alexander is a half-sister to the talented Flaming Spear who won the first timeout as a 2-year-old. Looking at the stats Saaed has a good first timeout record with 3-year-olds. He won’t have it all his own way though with the Wiliam Haggas trained Cold Front hoping to break his duck after finishing second three times in his career so far. The form looks pretty good, to be honest after when finishing behind another Godolphin horse Man Of Promise the last timeout.
