Eve Johnson Houghton 10 Two-year-olds to Follow in 2020

Woodway Stables, Blewbury, Oxfordshire is steeped in racing history. Eve returned to Wooday in 1999 to followed in the footsteps of her father Fulke who trained at this beautiful location for over forty years. However, the story doesn't stop there because his mother, Helen, preceded him as did her husband, Gordon.

Eve has trained a number of exceptional horses. Who could forget Tout Seul in the ownership of Eden Racing, very much a bargain buy at 12,000, but a wonderful specimen? He ran seven times at two winning five races. This son of Ali-Royal went on to win the Darley Dewhurst Stakes (Group 1).

He went on to finish 4th in the 2000 Guineas (losing by just over a length) and campaigned at the highest level at three including racing far afield as Lonchamp, France, Kyoto & Tokyo, Japan.

Tout Seul went on to stand at stud.

Accidental Agent was another very talented horse who won the Queen Anne Stakes (Group 1) at Royal Ascot.

Personally, two-year-old horses I remember include Roodle (2009), Zingana (2011) won on debut at odds of 100/1, Alutiq (2013), Cool Bahamian (2013), Room Key (2014),  Bahamadam (2016), Tin Hat (2018), Oberyn Martell (2018) & Graceful Magic (2019).

Eve has kindly forwarded 10 two-year-olds to follow this Flat season 2020. We thank her kindly for taking the time and wish the stable all the best for this season. Reviewing the Horses in Training publication Eve has 28 juveniles in training at this time.

“Very pleased with this boy, who moves well and impressed in his early work. Should be out the end of June.”

Dark Angel (IRE)

Mosuo (IRE)

50,000 Guineas purchase for owner H Frost

“A first foal, who looked a bit weak when we bought him. He has grown & strengthened really well. He continues to thrive & would be one for the back end.”

Coulsty (IRE)

Yearbook (GB)

Purchased for 10,000 and owned by Marc Middleton Heath

“He was Lot 1 at the Ascot Yearling Sales, so the first yearling I bought last year. He has shown up well on the gallops and will be one of the earliest out. He has grown a huge amount and looks like a lovely horse now.”

New Bay (GB)

Sound Of Guns (GB)

45,000 Guineas purchase for owners Anthony Pye-Jeary & David Ian

Roodle (GB)

10,000 Guineas purchase for owner Mrs. R. F. Johnson Houghton and a half-sister to Accidental Agent

Swiss Spirit (GB)

Wall of Sound (GB)

Owned by The Mighty Mouse Partnership and a half-brother to the promising 102 rated Tom Dascombe filly Boomer.

“Easy moving, but a bit heavy topped so we took this downtime as an opportunity to geld him. He is strong and goes well, should be running mid-season.”

Equiano (FR)

Stylos Ecossais (GB)

£30,000 purchase and owned by H.H Shaikh Nasser Al Khalifa & Partner

“A lovely horse who works very well, I would anticipate him being one of the earliest on the track and can see a bright future for him.”

Gleneagles (IRE)

Lady Eclair (IRE)

82,000 Guineas purchase and owned by Mr & Mrs. Nicholas Johnston.

“A big, gorgeous horse who we sent to Hen Knight's for a while to get him doing plenty of groundwork to strengthen him up. He has done really well there and will be coming back in shortly. He will probably have one run back end. A middle-distance type.”
