Weekly 2-Year-Old Eye-Catchers (Monday 9th-Sunday 15th September)

2yo horse racing eyecatchers
EYE-CATCHERS:

14:20 Leicester 10 Sep 2019:

The winner Amber Island deserved this win after running a couple of nice races in defeat. I don't think this is one of Charlie Applebys best fillies but even so, this was a nice performance. The one that caught my eye was Karl Burkes Hesssa who looks a nice Zoffany filly and is owned and bred by Ahmad Al Shaikh. A huge price that day when sent off at 50/1 but Hesssa ran a race full of promise. Jamie Spencer kept her at the back for most of the race until getting to work a couple of furlongs out, the winner had flown by then, and Jamie just cruised over the line. After watching the replay a few times I think Hesssa had a lot more left in the tank and was given a nice introduction by Jamie Spencer. One to keep on the right side of the next timeout.

14:50 Leicester 10 Sep 2019:

The next tracker I wrote about in last Tuesday's post and even though Global Esteem didn't win it felt like one when he sneaked third place at odds of 25/1. The Gay Kelleway Kodiac colt had been given a Group 2 Champagne Stakes entry but didn’t run. Global Esteem was a touch keen at the start and I guess that's why the first time hood was needed. Sean Kelly soon settled him and after being outpaced he stayed on well in the closing stages. Should be winning soon.

15:55 Carlisle 11 Sep 2019:

Not the strongest race you will ever find but am sure Notation can pick up a race sometime soon. The Mark Johnston Poets Voice filly is a half-sister to Calpin and owned and bred by Stuart Counsell. To say, she lost a few lengths at the start is an understatement as she was a country mile behind at the first turn. Jockey Franny Norton never gave up and Notation plugged on through beaten horses to nearly snatch third place. I think the betting showed that Notation needed this run and hopefully she can improve next start and get in the winner’s enclosure.

14:20 Sandown 13 Sep 2019:

Qaseeda was easy to back on her debut at Sandown last week, in fact, this Poet’s Voice filly drifted from 8s to 9/1 at the off. A market drift is normally a warning sign that things aren't quite right but Qaseedas debut run was the opposite. The William Haggas trained filly has a lovely pedigree and is a half-sister to Skardu who won on debut and has contested at a decent level this season. Qaseeda was slowly away(I guess that could explain the drift) and playing catch up. James Doyle soon got her back on the bridle and moved up stylishly but the winner Sand Diego had already got first run and despite Qaseeda flying home and making ground up all the way to the line, it was just too late. Real eye-catching run and one horse I will be keeping an eye out for in the future.

LATEST EYE-CATCHERS RESULTS:
