GLOBAL SPECTRUM.
November 21st is a date that always sticks in my mind. Why? Because it was the day Miss Gay Kelleway unleashed her stable superstar Global Spectrum. As you are more than likely aware by now over the years I have become good friends with Jason Coote (High-Class Equine) and we email mail each other daily with our thoughts on the days 2-year-old racing. Over the years I have relied on his Group Horse page which gives me insight into the best 2-year-old horses in training before they run.
In the past, Jason would write his thoughts on the day's racing if any group horses were running. On the day that Global Spectrum was running, he must have been busy because he missed Global Spectrum but I always check the night before to see if any group horses are running. I spotted Global Spectrum had been given a Group 2 Champagne Stakes entry but didn’t take part, so I emailed Jason and let him know, so he could update his page.
Global Spectrum is a lovely looking Dutch Art colt who was purchased for owner Dr Johnny Hon for 130,000 gns in May 2018. He made his debut on a cold winter's night at Kempton racecourse and to be honest, I had a nice each-way bet even though I wasn't too confident after he drifted from an opening show of 12/1 out to 16/1 at the off. At the time I thought the opposition was decent with a few nice newcomers in the field but looking at them now, it was a poor lot. Take nothing away from Global Spectrum because he took apart this field and the race was never in doubt as to the one and only Gerald Mosse rode the perfect race. Global Spectrum was always prominent and Gerald Mosse came with a beautifully timed run to beat Flaunt It by just under three lengths. It was the easiest money I have won for a while. As for Global Spectrum, he went onto win next timeout as a 3-year-old and has contested at group level without getting the win he deserves.
GLOBAL ESTEEM:
I guess you are thinking why am I waffling on about Global Spectrum? Well, Wednesday another potentially smart Miss Gay Kelleway horse is about to be unleashed. Global Esteem is a nice looking Kodiac colt who was foaled 16th February 2017. A 62,000 gns yearling and a 150,000 gns juvenile who was again purchased by Dr Johnny Hon. Like Global Spectrum he also had an early entry for the Group 2 Champagne Stakes at Doncaster but doesn't take his place. A lot of the top yards have turned out here and it looks race with some potentially nice types, but I did think that with Global Spectrum. Black Comedy came second to a well-thought-of Clive Cox horse called It’s Good To Laugh and the John Gosden horse Diyari should improve for the run. I might have a small each-way speculative bet just to see if lighting can really strike twice.
