Man Of Promise, On Guard, Magical Morning, Fiesta De Vega, Creative Force, Inhaler, and Renaissance Queen all nice winners for the blog the past week, let's hope a few more nice types come out my horses to follow this season.
12:15 Sat 13 June 2020 Newbury
Interesting little race this with the favourite likely to be the John Gosden trained Kingman colt Tsar. The form doesn't look anything special but with winter behind him any amount of improvement is possible. A couple of interesting trackers in the race are Lord Campari and Turaath.
Lord Campari is also a Kingman colt out of 98 rated Blanche Dubawi and cost 350,000 gns. The Roger Varian trained March foal contested a pretty hot contest in August last year with another Gosden horse Palace Pier winning impressively then going on to win next timeout and making a huge statement for the season ahead when winning a Class 2 Handicap at Newcastle with ease last week. Lord Campari was a no near sixth when they met but despite being a touch keen Lord Campari stayed on steadily and the extra distance will hopefully bring improvement to be involved at the finish.
Turaath would have to improve dramatically here to figure after not showing much on debut at Leicester last September. The Charlie Hills Oasis Dream filly takes on the boys here but is well-bred being out of 110 rated mare Fahdhayyil. A bit clueless on debut I would have liked to see her in an easier race than this and a market check is needed here.
15:45 Sat 13 June 2020 Sandown
Most of the top yards turn up for this Maiden Stakes race at Sandown. We have a Gosden newcomer, a Varian Irish Derby entry but I’m giving Gosden's other runner Byzantine Empire a final chance after finishing a pleasing third on his comeback race at Newcastle two weeks ago. The Golden Horn colt is a half-brother to Crazy Horse and Richard Pankhurst who both ran to a decent level under the guidance of John Gosden and hopefully, Robert Halvin can guide Byzantine Empire home here at Sandown.
16:10 Sat 13 June 2020 Newbury
Cosa Orga is another who is on last chance saloon here after another no show last timeout. One positive thing is this looks a slightly easier race than the Golden Horn colt contested at Yarmouth the last timeout when having his first run for new trainer William Haggas. I will have a minimal stake and hope for the best for a place at least.
15:15 Sun 14 June 2020 Newmarket
Nice days racing on Sunday and my next two trackers I guess will be short so no bets but two I've been looking forward to seeing for a good while now and hope they both run well.
Althiqa made a favourable impression when making her debut at Thirsk in April last year. The Dark Angel Charlie Appleby runner has had wind surgery and hasn't been seen since her winning the fillies Maiden, hopefully, Althiqa can win here and go onto better things if her long absence isn't a problem and she has no issues.
17:00 Sun 14 June 2020 Newmarket
Any regular readers of the post will know I have waited a while for Do You Love Me to run for Karl Burke and owners Phoenix Thoroughbred Limited. The well-thought-of Galileo filly makes her debut in what looks a tough little contest but hopefully, she can do herself justice first time out here.
Thanks for reading and stay safe.
At last, the Flat season is underway and hopefully, I can get a few winners to keep the betting bank ticking over.
Just a quick introduction to what the blog is about for any new readers who have stumbled across it.
I will be mentioning a few horses in each post that l like and hopefully do a midweek review to see how they ran.
I will also like to add that I’m definitely no Hugh Taylor so be warned if you follow any of my bets they come with a warning 😁.
It’s been a strange week as I’ve been trying to be careful with all the 2-year-old debutants this week and ended up missing out on a couple of winners plus a 3-year-old winner which was disappointing as my only three bets so far that I have done all lost!
In my Godolphin 2yos to Follow post, I mentioned the well-bred Creative Force who is trained by Charlie Appleby and a half-brother to the John Gosden filly Persuasive. To be honest, I didn’t even notice he was running till he won impressively after making all at Newmarket this week.
Creative Force looks a 2-year-old with a bright future.
Renaissance Queen was another I left alone and another who looks a nice type for the boys in blue after beating the well-thought-of Delta’s Royalty.
The Tom Dascombe trained Adaay Dream was another tracker I left alone who won at Newcastle at odds of 13/2 which was disappointingly another missed chance.
A few more Dascombe 2yos I will be looking out for are:
Astronomic Choice who is owned and bred by Mr. John Brown.
Bakersboy is a 100,000 purchase for owners David Lowe and Partner.
Rattling Rosie owned and bred by Mr. D.R. Passant.
Solent Gateway is owned by Mr. D.R. Passant & Heffin Williams.
Capo Bay is owned by Deva Racing Group.
Robustly is owned by Chasemore Farm.
Always Dreaming is owned by Ms. A Quinn.
Right onto the weekend and the trackers are coming through thick and fast but disappointingly most are short prices so won’t be betting.

The expensive Noble Dynasty was featured in my Godolphin 2yos to follow post and is a 3,600,000 purchase and a half-brother to the brilliant 122 rated Barney Roy who won the St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot in 2017 but another likely short price.
16:45 Sun 07 June 2020.
King Leonidas was very impressive when winning his maiden at Newmarket last October and will be a tough nut to crack but the Charlie Appleby trained Eastern World is a very well-thought-of Dubawi colt and will give him something to think about for sure.
Eastern World made his long-awaited debut last December and was backed like defeat was out of the question. The 10/11 favourite managed to finish second despite looking a bit awkward and green through-out the race. Interesting to see what he can do this season but an early price of 6/5 makes it a race to just watch and enjoy.

It's not very often you will see me step into the handicapping scene but another Godolphin horse catches the eye. *Encipher is a well-thought-of colt trained by John Gosden who won a shade cosily at Newmarket last July, hasn't been seen since but will hopefully be fit and ready to move up a level and distance with Frankie on board. If I can get an each-way price I will have a bet.
Good luck and stay safe.

If you read the blog regularly you will know I gave the Charlie Appleby Dubawi colt Eastern World as a horse to follow. Eastern World made his long-awaited debut this month and was backed like defeat was out of the question. The 10/11 favourite managed to finish second despite looking a bit awkward and green through-out the race. I will be keeping with Eastern World next season as I am sure he will be winning his maiden soon enough. Charlie Appleby has plenty of firepower and these five are worth following next season.
I'm sure MAN OF PROMISE went into many notebooks and if he doesn't get him in now. The Into Mischief Colt was born on 10th February 2017 in the United States and is owned by Godolphin.
The bay colt has only had one run to date in what was a pretty hot Ascot Maiden Stakes race back in July. Man Of Promise traveled well but looked a little green towards the business end of the race when making his challenge and lost nothing in defeat coming third. The winner Mums Tipple and second place Molatham both franked the form and even though Man Of Promise will be short next time out I am keen to see how good this Charlie Appleby colt is.
The next Godolphin owned horse to follow is the Irish born STATE CROWN who looked in need of the race on his debut at Chelmsford in August. The New Approach Chestnut colt drifted from 7/2 to his eventual starting price 5/1 before the off and it showed as State Crown fluffed the start and was slowly away. William Buick tracked the leaders and then switched to the inside but could only manage third behind the more experienced Surf Dancer. A step up to a mile should bring out more improvement next season and State Crown will hopefully be competing in a higher grade.
No big surprise to see who my next Charlie Appleby horse to follow next season is.
BOCCACCIO already has two wins to his name. Born in Ireland on the 22nd February 2017, the Dubawi Bay colt was an expensive purchase from the Tattersalls 2018 October Yearling Sale Book 1. Bought for a tidy 850.000 Guineas for owners Godolphin, Boccaccio had a big price tag and big home reputation after starting 5/4 favourite for his debut race at Yarmouth back in May. He wasn’t to disappoint as he won easily and looked like he would be taking it to the next level soon enough. Plenty of significant entries followed but no sign of the exciting Boccaccio until he finally made his second start at Kempton last month and it was the same story, as he won with plenty in hand. Boccaccio had been off the course a while since his debut and gone up 4 lb in weight. Really looking forward to seeing this Irish 2000 Guineas entry back out again next season.
SACRED DANCE is another who will be hopefully competing in group races next season after winning a Doncaster Novice Stakes race back in June comfortably. Another who was bought from the Tattersalls 2018 October Yearling Sale Book 1, this time a 650.000 Guineas purchase. The Sea The Stars Filly looks a class act even though she didn’t beat much at Doncaster she was given a few significant entries including the Group 1 Fillies' Mile race but didn't run. Another worth following next season.
Unraced RENAISSANCE QUEEN has a couple of nice entries next season and one to keep an eye out for.
Thanks for reading and a very happy New Year also thanks for supporting the blog in 2019.
