5:20 Lingfield Racing Tips (16th June)

An intriguing race. 

A Class 5 race over 6f on Standard going. 

To be fair, this looks a half-competitive race. A field of nine two-year-olds take part, six with racecourse experience.  

The betting exchanges have been quite lively if not volatile with a handful attracting money and the natural ebb and flow of traders looking for a piece of the action. 

Kinta is making his debut for George Boughey. This son of Sioux Nation in the familiar silks of Mr and Mrs R Scott, a costly breeze-up purchase at 110,000gns. This bay filly, a February foal, has been entered for a couple of Class 2 races which I would take as an encouraging sign. Boughey hasn't achieve previous highs with his juveniles this season and his stats aren't that great for debutantes. However, I would expect a bold show from this filly. Although little value at the price a horse I would respect. 

Simon Crisford has had a few two-year-old winners this season although a little quiet in ways. Tarlo, a son of Kodiac, wasn't overly fancied on his debut when beaten five lengths at Nottingham. Out of a winning mare, this 230,000gns purchase is likely to improve for that initial start as probably in need of the run that day. The betting is important for this gelding as very few of the stables juveniles win at big odds on their second start. But a horse, if fancied in the betting, which has sound each way claims. 

Chuck Taylor is a home bred for Charlie and Mark Johnston, in the silks of Clipper Logistics Ltd, who are having a great season with their juveniles. Half fancied in the betting, and worth noting although most of their debut winners are priced 9/2 and less sp. 

William Knight doesn't have a large string of juveniles but a handler who can find winners if given the ammunition. Ben Dikduk is a home bred out of a Meydan winning mare for owner Abdullah Menahi. There has been money for this son of New Approach, which gives additional hope. Knight doesn't have too many debutantes priced 10/1 and less and if even shorter in the betting at the off would be a sign of confidence. 

To add to the mix Roger Varian fields the once raced Alif Power for owners King Power Racing Co Ltd. This son of El Kabeir cost 130,000gns at the yearling sales. This grey colt wasn't fancied on debut at Goodwood and trailed home down the field. Improvement is needed but not impossible. The stable can go well second start although I would anticipate this horse would need to be one of the favourite to hold greatest claims. There has been money for this juvenile and it will be interesting to see if this is sustained or dries up before the off. 

Conclusion:  I would let the betting settle down before making any decisions here. Kinta is interesting as I'm pretty sure the stable fancy this filly to go well. However, the stable don't have the best stats on debut (even though most pundits say opposite which is wrong) and she is against a few experienced colts. She has a plum draw in stall one and worthy of respect although, perhaps, lacking value if short odds. Tarlo may be a fair each way bet in opposition but he would need to be fancied in the betting. If seriously weak in the market, it would be a worry. Ben Dikduk would be very interesting if starting as one of the favourites here. The shorter the price the bigger the confidence. Not without a hope if in single-figure odds. Alif Power has been backed but would need to be priced 9/2 and less sp to hold serious claims. If that price or shorter I'd expect a bold show.
