First-season sires that could be on show are Harry Angel, Expert Eye and Sioux Nation. Not sure about first-season sires? Check the Nancy Sexton post out as personally I think it's an amazing read and tells you everything you need to know.
Angel de L'amour trained by Robyn Brisland and owned by Mrs Heaynes.
First foal for dam Ocelot who was placed three times as 2yo for Tim Easterby. Ocelot enjoyed a bit more success for Robert Cowell as she got older, winning five times over the minimum distance. First season sire Harry Angel will be hoping to make his mark here. The filly was purchased at the Yearling Sales for 27,000 gns. The bay filly was born on the 31st March 2020.
Comedian Leader could possibly be Alice Haynes first 2yo runner of the season. The Aclaim filly runs in the colours of Nick Bradley Racing 41 and was purchased for £2,000 at the Silver Yearling Sales. Comedian Leader is the third foal out of dam Last Frontier who was unraced. Comedian Leader is a half-sister to The Brazen One who looked disappointing last season for Roger Fell. The bay filly was born on the 27th March 2020.
Coraje is trained by the excellent George Boughey. A cheap purchase at 6,000 gns for first season sire Expert Eye. Dam Omneeya raced one season for Marco Botti, placing a few times. Half-sister to Pride Of Eight who won once over seven furlongs in Ireland last year. Trainer won this race last year with Thunder Love who went onto contest pattern races. Coraje had an early entry for the Brocklesby on Saturday. The bay filly was born on the 29th January 2020.
Dazzling Gem trained by Richard Hannon who teams up with owners Amo Racing again here. Not sure how many horses Amo Racing have this year but I feel like that's all I am seeing here and in Ireland, anyway the Dandy Man filly is by Godolphin dam Looks Great who was unraced for Saeed bin Suroor. Dazzling Gem is a half-sister to the Archie Watson trained Watermelon Sugar who won his only race in February this year after being sent off 5/6 fav, also half-sister to the previously trained Richard Hannon runner Good Listener who won second time as a 2yo over five furlongs at Windsor in 2020. Purchased at the Tatts Somerville Sales for 30,000 gns. The bay filly was born on the 31st March 2020.
Fifty Year Storm looks to be Archie Watsons first runner of the season here. The Mehmas filly is by average dam Fainleog who won only once in her three year career. Half-sister to a couple of very average horses. Second dam Lady Gregory did produce Listed winner The Reaper so not one to overlook totally. The Mehmas filly was purchased by Tally Ho Stud for £100,000 at the Goffs Sales. Archie's best month for first time out winners is April and has a decent record at Kempton, anything over 10s a negative. Trainer won this in 2019 with Lady Kermit who finished second in the Listed Marygate Stakes at York. The bay filly was born on the 23rd January 2020.
Gareeb for Charlie & Mark Johnston who team up with familiar owner Jaber Abdulla who has tasted 2yo success with Mark in the past with the likes of Zabeel Champion, King Zain and Sky Cross to mention a few. Gareeb is by first season sire Sioux Nation and out of unraced dam Fancy. Gareeb was purchased for 40,000 euros at the Goffs Sales and is a half-sister to Richard Hannon's Fancy Man who won on debut at Haydock as a 2yo over seven furlongs, Fancy Man has since progressed into a lovely horse for owner Michael Pescod. The brown filly was born on the 19th April 2020.
Glamorous Star for Ronald Harris who gets a 2yo winner nearly every season out of his small string of 2yos, finding the one could be a little difficult that's the problem. Ronald's last first time 2yo winner was 2013 when M'selle won at Lingfield priced 12/1. The Gutaifan filly Is owned by the Dooceys and was purchased for £42,000 at the Goffs Sales. Glamorous Star comes from a family Ronald knows very well as he trained five of dam Glamorous Airs offspring at some point of their career, they all tasted victory, most notably Just Glamorous who earned £120,907 in prize money in a long but successful career. The bay filly was born on the 8th April 2020.
Glory Sky is a second entry for Richard Hannon. The Cotai Glory filly is owned by Mr Chris Giles and partner and was a £28,000 purchase at the Goffs Sales. Dam Artax Hope was unraced but the second dam produced a nice offspring called Deauville Vision who won a couple of Listed races in Ireland. The Chesnut filly was born on the 12th March 2020.
Hot In Havana Trained by Robyn Brisland and owned by same ownership Cross Channel Racing as Jiffy Boy who runs in the Brocklesby on Saturday, just to note Jiffy Boy was a 40/1 shot the other day and has since been well supported into 5s after the early prices went up. The Havana Grey filly is out of dam Hucking Hot (great name) who won over seven furlongs as a 2yo for John Best. Offspring include El Mirage and Humour who both won over the sprint distance. The bay filly was born on the 10th April 2020.
Lily In The Jungle who is of course trained by David Evans and owned by Rob Emmanuelle, T Burns and David Evans. Part owner T Burns has a decent horse with David called Coul Queen who finished third on debut as a 2yo and went onto get placed in the group 3 Solera Stakes in 2020. The Bungle Inthejungle filly was a 13,000 gns purchase and is a half-sister to the David Evans trained Lili Wen Fach who won once out of 24 runs over today's distance. The Chesnut filly was born on the 13th April 2020.
Malhumorda The Fast Company Richard Hannon trained filly Is a pretty cheap purchase at 14,000 euros from the Goffs Autumn Sales and owned by Mr Steven Rocco & Mrs Maryse Doyle. The third foal of unraced dam Miss Moody. The Bay filly was born on the 10th February 2020.
Miss American Pie Trained and owned by Stan Moore. The Camacho filly Is the first foal out of unraced dam Party Peace. Second dam Peace Summit was also unraced but produced three winners from four runners. Trainer J Moore does get a few 2yo winners each season at big prices but is not known for first time out 2yo winners. The bay filly was born on the 18th January 2020.
Mountain Run Bill Turner with his second 2-year-old runner here. The Hellvelyn filly is out of dam Up And Running who raced once in France back in 2014 finishing last. The grey filly was born on the 7th April 2020.
Ocean Cloud Gay Kelleway trains and owns this Camacho filly. A £35,000 purchase from the Goffs November Foal Sale 2020 and out of dam Sea Of Knowledge who won once over a mile and a quarter in France. First foal Brilliant Blue placed twice out of four runs for Gary Moore. Trainer has had a couple of first time out winners over the past five years, last one was her first 2yo of 2019 Lady Quickstep who won 16/1. Two 2yos placed out of twenty two runs in just female races. Can pop up with a big priced winner. The bay filly was born on the 23rd January 2020.
On The Pulse A Dragon Pulse filly owned and trained by David Evans out of dam Amthal. The dam won second time out as a 2-year-old for Clive Brittan in 2011 then after a five year lay off showed no signs of losing her ability when winning for new trainer Lucy Wadham. The bay filly was born on the 12th February 2020.
She's Hot is out of first season sire Sioux Nation and the first runner of the season for trainers Paul & Oliver Cole. She's Hot was a 16,000 gns purchase at the October Yearling Sales out of book 3. Dam Timely Words was unraced but has produced a couple of winning offspring including Numero Dix, a six furlong winner in France for Andre Fabre and Reassurance who won over two miles. Stable doesn't have a huge amount of 2yos now but can still produce a nice one. Ernie's Valentine won first timeout last season and looks a nice sort for 2022. Past couple of seasons June has been the best month. Trainer can come up with a big priced winner. The Chesnut filly was born on the 3rd April 2020.
Xenacontessa This David Evans trained Prince of Lir filly is a bit of a mouthful for commentators. This is the first foal out of dam First Invader. Second dam Satsuma produced group 3 Cornwallis Stakes winner Good Vibes, previously trained by David Evans until Qatar Racing bought her for 390,000 gns in 2019. Xenacontessa was purchased for 6,500 euros at the Sportsman's 2021 Sale. The Chesnut filly was born on the 11th April 2020.
Zephina is another for trainer David Evans, pretty sure he has about a million entries at the start of every season. The Zoustar filly is out of Soho Susie and was a cheap purchase for 3,000 gns and is owned by Mrs S.W.Banks. The dam was unraced, second dam Lucina produced the none other than Mehmas, not sure at 3,000 gns we have another Mehmas to be honest. The bay filly was born on the 8th March 2020.
Conclusion:
I imagine the money will be staying in the pocket here as many unknowns with debutantes. Dazzling Gem will be popular with the trainer and owner combo. I didn't really think much of Archie Watsons until I saw the price tag and remembered he won It in 2019. Gareeb is another who targets early 2yo races and I like the trainer owner combo again. The market I imagine will speak come race day. It's interesting that Coraje was thought well enough for the Brocklesby, plus George Boughey won this with Thunder Love and then she is one of the older fillies in the field, an interesting race.
Thanks for reading.
I took a look at the final decs last night and to be honest I couldn't find enough enthusiasm to have a bet on any of them! Nothing doing for me on this one.
ReplyDeleteAgreed, best to watch the early races I think mate, gun to my head the Boughey horse
