Trainer's Talk 2-Year-Olds Marco Botti 2022

I would like to thank Marco for taking the time to forward 10 Two-year-olds to follow for the new Flat turf Season 2022.

Prestige Place, Snailwell Road, Newmarket has been the home of exceptional race horses including Group & Grade 1 winners: Capla Temptress, Tac De Boistron, Euro Charlie, Joshua Tree, Excelebration & Gitano Hernando.

1: EDEN STORM (Starspangledbanner x Fou Rire)

Purchased at the Tattersalls Yearling Sales for 55,000 gns. First foal out of Dam Fou Rire who won twice as a 2-year-old. Marco’s view: “Nice strong colt who is very forward mentally and moves extremely well. He seems precocious. Hopefully start over 6f. Nice prospect who’s ticking boxes and pleasing me.”

2: THAWG (Golden Horn x Vandergirl)

Purchased at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sales for 28,000 gns. Unraced Dam, second Dam Roscoff produced a few nice types including Auxerre who was a star in the making for Charlie Appleby until sadly dying as a 4-year-old, Manuela De Vega and Hero Look another two who ran to a decent level. Marco’s view: “Big filly but a lovely mover, likely to need a bit of time so we won't be rushing her. Qualifies for the GBB scheme and also book 1 bonus.”

3: ALASKAN POINT

Purchased at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sales for 42,000 gns. Dam Dark Promise was a decent performer for Michael Jarvis then Roger Varian finishing her career winning the Rosemary Stakes. Dark Promise is the dam of three winners including Mystical Air who looks a nice type for Roger Varian. Marco’s view: “Very sharp 2yo, racey in appearance and bred to be early. Goes well so far and happy with his progression. Seems to enjoy his work.”

4: STATES OF THUNDER - Night Of Thunder x American Endeavour

Purchased at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sales for 42,000 gns. Dam American Endeavour won three times in her career for Marco, a bit of an all weather specialist. Marco’s view: “1st foal out of the mare but looks sharp, goes nicely and looking forward to seeing his progression.”

5: TENJIN (Night Of Thunder x Notary)

Purchased at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sales for 100,000 gns. Dam Notary only ran three times, winning once over seven furlongs. Marco’s view: “Wasn’t the biggest yearning but beginning to grow and wont want to be rushed as a result, looks a really nice 7f prospect with a great temperament. Very lucky to train him for owner Ahmad Bintouq who we had Tatsumaki for last year.”

6: COCO JAMBOO (Massat x Beta Tauri)

Purchased at the Tattersalls Yearling Sales for 30,000 gns. A half-sister to the Simon & Ed Crisford trained Last Surprise who won on debut at two and ran to a decent level. Marco’s view: “Early racy type who’s very elegant in appearance and movement, looks to be sharp, Hopefully a nice prospect for the stallions first season with runners. Delighted to have the filly for a new owner to the yard. Lets hope she gives him plenty to shout about.”

7: STRATEGIA (Shalaa x Tribulina)

Half-brother to Tricolore who won twice for Marco. Marco’s view: “Nice strong scopey horse, out of a Dansili mare. Likely to take a while but has a brilliant mind. I’m sure as the season progresses he will be a nice prospect.”

8: Churchill x Komedy

Purchased at the September Yearling Sales for £110,000. A half-brother to Internationaldream who won second timeout as a two-year-old and came third in the Dragon Stakes for Richard Fahey. Marco’s view: “Plenty of scope to him but light on his feet, can be a little buzzy. Won't rush him but looks a nice 7f prospect. Could be smart in time.”

9: Dark Angel x Maqaasid

Purchased at the Goffs Autumn Yearling Sales for $155,000. Dam was a lovely type for John Gosdon winning the Queen Mary at two and finishing third in the 1000 Guineas. Marco’s view: “Extremely well bred filly who physically looks smart and precocious. Likeable in temperament and movement so hoping she continues to progress.”

10: BLENHEIM PRINCE (Churchill x Snowdust)

Purchased at the Orby Sale for £30,000 Unraced dam. Blenheim Prince is a half-brother to the ex Marco Botti trained Sweet Celebration who won a couple of times at three. Marco’s view: “Big horse. I trained the sister who needed time and a trip but had a great mind and he seems to be similar. Only wants to please. His attitude will help him and I’m looking forward to seeing him strengthen. In time he could be a nice prospect for a fun group of owners.”
