Trainer's Talk 2-Year-Olds-George Scott 2022

Thanks to George for taking the time to forward 12 two-year-olds to follow this Flat turf season 2022.

James Garfield proved a class act when contesting the highest grade from 2017 - 2018.

In fact, a career spanning 14 starts saw him win twice at Group level (a number of narrow defeats, especially losing by a nose in the Acomb Stakes (Group 3) and half-length defeat when caught close home at Deauville, France, when runner-up in the Larc Prix Maurice de Gheest (Group 1).

James Garfield proved victorious in the Mill Reef Stakes (Group 2) and Greenham Stakes (Group 3).

For good measure, he contended the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf, in the United States when a 13/2 shot, ridden by Frankie Dettori, beaten just over four lengths.

A stallion, he stands at Rathbarry Stud, Ireland.

12 Two-Year-Olds to Follow 2022

1: James Garfield x Angel de la Gesse

Purchased at the Goffs Premier Yearling Sales for £23,000. George’s view: “With my obvious connection to James Garfield, I was keen to secure a Yearling by him and she was the best yearling filly by him that I saw at the Sales. I’ve been very pleased with her since she joined us. She won't be sharp enough for 5 furlongs, but I expect to have her on the track when the 6 furlong races start.”

2: BEAM ME UP SCOTTY ( Adaay x Tamaara)

Purchased at the Tattersalls Somerville Yearling Sales for 25,000 gns. George’s view: “Is my half for the Offthebridle Podcast syndicate. He's an athletic horse, who has a little bit of growing to do. Mentally he’s rock solid and I hope to have him on the track in early summer.”

3: GOOSE ROCK (Mehmas x Drifting Spirit)

Purchased at the Tattersalls Yearling Sales for £105,000. George’s view: “Was a physical standout for me at the Sale. Mehmas needs no introduction, and he came highly recommended by Roger O’Callaghan at Tally Ho Stud. He’s a strong individual with a good mind and will be ready to run before Ascot.”

4: Dandy Man x Fashion Central

Purchased at the Tattersalls Yearling Sales for £13,000. George’s view: ”Is my only unsold yearling, he’s thrived since joining us and looks a lovely 6/7 furlong prospect for later in the year. He hasn’t put a foot wrong and he’s a horse I have an awful lot of time for.”

5: El Kabier x Little Audio

Purchased at the Goffs Premier Yearling Sales for £90,000. George’s view: ”I was very keen to buy some stock by El Kabier. I thought he closed out last season in excellent style, as a young stallion. This is a loose moving athletic filly who is just filling into herself. She too hasn’t put a foot wrong since joining us a little later than some of the others. She should be ready for 6 furlongs around June time.”

6: KING KRAKE (Washington DC x Minty Fox)

Purchased at the Tattersalls Somerville Yearling Sales for 10,000 gns. George’s view: “By first season Sire Washington DC, there were plenty of yearlings by this Sire that I liked. King Kraken although can be a little hot headed is a beautiful looking horse with a fast looking top line and a quality outlook. He finds life easy and should be ready to run before Ascot.”

7: PRIMARY PROCESS (Caravaggio x Peloponnese)

George’s view: “Carravagio has had an outstanding year with his fillies and I was delighted to be sent this filly by the Niarchos family. She’s an easy moving filly that covers plenty of ground. She has some strengthening to do before having any idea of when she might run.”

8: EMBROIDERED CLOTH (Buratino x Ribbon Royale)

Purchased at the Tattersalls Somerville Yearling Sales for 27,000 gns. George’s view: “This is a hard knocking compact son of Burratino, with an excellent attitude. Provided we have a clear run with him, I’d hope that he would get started around the Craven meeting.”

9: Dawn Approach x Silver Moon

Purchased at the Tattersalls Yearling Sales for £18,000. George’s view: “Tall scopey son of Dawn Approach, has a lovely depth of girth, has a good hip and finds life easy. He will probably take a little more time than some of the others, but likely he will start over 7 furlongs.”

10: SPARE RIB (Ribchester x Fortune Hunter)

George’s view: “Tall son of Ribchester. I’ve been impressed by Ribchester’s start at Stud. This is an attractive colt, but very much on the leg at the moment. We won’t put him under any pressure, but he should make it into a lovely horse later in the year.”

11: SHERMAN KLUMPF (Profitable x Frabrika)

Purchased at the Tattersalls Somerville Yearling Sales for 9,000 gns. George’s view: “This son of profitable was picked up relatively inexpensively. He is a forward horse with a good attitude. I expect him to be ready for the start of the season.”

12: YAHTZEE (Gregorian x Rahanna)

Purchased at the Tattersalls Somerville Yearling Sales for 16,000 gns. George’s view: “Gregorian is well capable of getting a tough filly. I thought Yahtzee fitted the bill at the sales. She is a big strong filly with a good hip. She has been straightforward and I’m looking forward to pushing on with her in the next few weeks.”
