13:50 Nottingham (27 Apr 2021)

1. ACCACIA

A 30,000 gns purchase as a yearling who is trained by Archie Watson and owned by Mr S W Banks & Mr Mark Windsor. The Aclaim filly is a half-sister to James Tates Name The Wind who was a decent type winning first timeout as a 2yo at Kempton in 2018. Archie Watson started this season pretty well and had a nice first timeout winner last week with Dusky Prince for Cool Silk. Normally has a good strike rate with debutants in April, the betting could be the key here. Archie has only had one 2yo debut winner over 10/1 and that was back in 2017. Opening price 7/1. Positive under 9/2, negative over 10s.

2. AMBER DEW

Trained by Ralph Beckett and owned by Mrs Deborah June James. A half-sister to the George Baker trained Paper Star who placed four times as a 2-year-old before picking up a race in France. Ran a decent fourth at the Craven Newmarket meeting first timeout in a race won by Desert Dreamer for Stuart Williams. Early days with the form but that was a pretty nice debut as the second Bellareana Lady has come out and won for Ed Dunlop and the third placed El Hadeeyah is well-thought of by James Tate. Amber Dew was always up with the pace that day but ran green, pretty sure the Showcasing filly will come on plenty for that run and be in the mix here. If drifting to over 15/2 it would be a negative. Opening price 6/5. Positive under 11/8, negative over 15/2.

3. BONITA B

Owned by familiar owners Bastian Family who have had a couple winners with Mick Channon in the past. Channon has a few horses with dam Effie B, most notably Neola who actually won second timeout at Nottingham which is interesting. Bonita B was slowly away and green on debut and needs to take a step up from that effort. Not the best stats when priced over 10/1 but not one to write-off if supported. Opening price 25/1. Positive under 15/2, negative over 8/1.

4. FABIOSA

Dam Delizia won first timeout over 5 furlongs then went on to win the Listed Marygate Stakes at York in 2015. Fabiosa is a 42,000 gns purchase and owned by Richard Kent & Richard & Pam Dawson and trained by David Evans. Attracted some support on debut at Windsor from 25/1 into 10/1. Interesting that James Doyle takes the ride here but James has ridden a few times for David and is yet to win for him. Ran a promising race at Windsor finishing fourth to Crazyland when staying on again the final furlong. Opening price 7/1. Positive under 10s, negative over 11s.

5. KODIAS SANGARIUS

A £68,000 purchase for Middleham Park Racing and trained by Richard Hannon. Richard has started this season with a bang and already had 3 first time out winners Dukebox, Gubbass and Armor. Since 2017 Richard Hannon has had 4/17 debut 2-year-old winners at Nottingham. Dam Oui Say Oui won first timeout in 2008 at the Curragh over 6 furlongs. Richard has had a few two-year-old winners by sire Kodiac in the past. If drifting to over 11/1 it would be a big negative. Opening price 11/2. Positive under 15/2, negative over 8s.

6. LUCROSA

Nice type on paper. A 47,000 gns purchase, trained by Hughie Morrison and owned by Thurloe Thoroughbreds L who had a winner with Hughie back in 2019 called With Respect who won on debut at Newbury. A half-sister to Round Six who won second timeout at Kempton also half-sister to Last Opportunity who won on debut at Leopardstown over six. Hughie is not known for his first timeout winners and has a poor strike rate but nonetheless looks an interesting runner. Opening show 12/1. Positive under 9/2, negative over 5s.

7. PINK STORM

35,000 gns purchase by Karl and Kelly Burke and owned by Mr B Chatwal & Mrs E Burke. A half-sister to Archie Watson trained Gallovie who won second timeout over 6 furlongs. Made her debut at Newcastle just over three weeks ago when finishing third, the second has been well-beaten since. A bit of support on debut from 14/1 into 10s. Four winners out of Eighteen debutantes at Nottingham for Karl and good place stats too. Ben Curtis takes the ride here. I did think Pink Storm was given an easy time on debut and should come on for that run. Opening show 11/2. Positive under 9/2, negative over 8s.

8. SYMPHONY PERFECT

Richard Hannon's second runner. A 30,000 gns purchase and owned by Amo Racing Limited who have plenty of horses this season. Betting will be the key to this Fast Company fillies chances here. Over 10/1 a negative for me. Opening show 15/2.

9. TWISTALINE

Rod Millman Showcasing filly who cost 21,000 gns. Pretty nice pedigree but didn’t show much on debut at Leicester. Dam Tongue Twista came third in the Group 2 Cambridge Stakes at Newmarket. Going to be tough here for Twistaline but hopefully can show a bit more promise than debut race. Opening show 40/1. Positive under 5s, negative over 8/1.

Conclusion: Could come back to haunt me this but interesting to see if the stats work out right. I do like a Karl Burke second timeout horse if supported so if Pink Storm attracts some support I will have a small each way. Bonita B also looks interesting if supported. The fav Amber Dew could make mince meat of these but way too short for me. Plenty of newcomers make this a fascinating race and look forward to how it pans out.
