Here we go again, the flat is back and I’m loving it. Life is so busy with work, family and everything else going on , adding results , watching replays, trying to find a winner, honestly I wish I could spend more time on the blog and updating it, I really want to add some eye-catchers like the old days, If I get time I will.
Ascot will be on everyone's minds now so the owners and trainers will be unleashing their prospects soon enough, It’s exciting but the better races make picking winners that little more difficult, Archie Watson seems to be flying along this season after a quieter 2025, Eve Johnson Houghton Unleashed Night In Vegas On Saturday In what is normally a good race to follow, I’m really looking forward to this season, this time next year Rodney I’ll be a millionaire (I wish), Just to note I’m no expert like good old Racing Blogger ha so have a read and pick your own. My journey will be ups and downs and I won’t be backing any shorties for sure, for me it’s about value and figuring out the 2yo puzzle, if that means trainer stats, sires, jockeys or whatever I’ll be searching high and low, to find value I might even have to take a few losers on the way and you know what? That doesn't bother me, I’ll be pissed as nobody likes losing money but I’m not putting a lot on so I will see how it goes. Tomorrow doesn’t look so exciting but I’ll give it a go.
Wolverhampton 18.30
A restricted novice with a bit of everything going on, Colts against Fillies, trainers not so hot with debut runners and wide draw to contend with.
Bad Baker trained by James Horton, not a trainer I know a great deal about as he doesn’t have many runners, he’s had one fto winner at Wolves over seven furlongs and that’s about it also wide draw on debut, unless backed I wouldn’t be looking at the Palace Pier colt.
Blake’s Monarch trained by Furtado who doesn’t inspire confidence on debut, from a win point of view one to watch. Sire Ten Sovereigns goes on the surface.
Emerald Bay for George Scott who had a nice winner with Efsixteen last week who looks a nice type, the support was there that day and I don’t think Emerald will be in the same league. If the money comes may be worth a bet but another who isn’t on my shortlist.
Parading was an outsider on debut for Richard Hughes and ran like one when running in a class 2 at Leicester, slowly away and looked clueless, kept on a bit but finished near the back, up in trip and second run so could be transformed, would need the money to come in and a high draw would make life difficult if slowly away again.
Allaboutthelunch for Smyth-Osbourne, ran in the same race as the above and didn’t do much better, Osbourne did have a few big price winners last year and one with the owner of Lunch, really needs to step up, can’t see it but stranger things have happened.
Indian Land is one of the more interesting ones for Ralph Beckett who has an excellent second time out record, owned by Smith who has plenty of decent horses with Beckett, looks a nice type and was a 9/2 shot in the Leicester race, started well but faded and was disappointing to be honest, looking at the pedigree doesn’t inspire me but has experience and was fancied on debut, can’t be ruled out.
Kach Above for Loughnane and Lowe who have had plenty of success in the past, not sure about the pedigree on this one but I’m no expert on pedigree, on nothing actually ha but I’m sure the pair know more than me, Loughnane can have a first timeout winner but the draw and pedigree put me off. Is entered for a Newmarket race next week which is a positive.
Taseem for trainer Des Donovan, trainer and owner paired up for a winner last season, that’s as good as it gets, poor debut.
Agnes Hathaway for Michael Bell who’s 2yo olds often need the run. I do like the fact Hector Crouch is on and Bell has half decent place stats with 2yo’s at Wolverhampton, draw looks fine too. A Filly against the Colts could be a negative but not the strongest race.
Cydney Sweeney for Morland who I Imagine will be favourite, decent run on debut in what form looks the best we have to offer and Murphy jumps on board, wouldn’t put anyone off but I Imagine no value for me.
Crystal Kraken for Cunha, huge price debut and that’s enough to put me off.
Dun Eideann for Dascombe who landed a nice touch with Crown Of Ivy the other week, not getting a feel for this filly, needs serious support.
Shortlist:
Cydney looks the one to beat but no value, Parading really needs to improve and Beckett’s Indian Land does too, I’ll see what price Indian opens and also if Agnas Hathway opens big it could be worth each way and hopefully sneak a place. It’s worth noting the betting should tell the story. If I can get a price on bells and hopefully get support I can lay my stake for a no loss.
Good luck and thanks for reading.
