Early Entries Brocklesby Stakes 2023 (30th March)

Thank God the Flats back!

I've been twiddling my thumbs for months now waiting. I'll take a look through the early entries for the Brocklesby 2023, it's actually a Class 2 now so I'm pretty sure we could have a few future winners here.

1: Alfa Whiteburd for trainer Craig Lidster. Dam Suaimhneach was average at best for trainer Jim Bolger before moving to Philip Makin, winning once in 2019.

Trainer note: No first timeout 2yo winners. Would be a big surprise to see this Cotai Glory colt win.

2: Arc Shadowfax for trainer Seb Spencer.

17,000 gns Harry Angel colt. Related to Deevious Beau who won a few times in lower grade races, Dam Vespasia only raced once and was unplaced.

Trainer note: Another trainer who has had no 2yo first time winners so I'd expect this one to be a big outsider if taking part.

3: Big Time Rascal for trainer George Boughey.

Purchased for 100,000 gns at the October Yearling Sales. Dam Guerriere raced in France never winning but with plenty of placed efforts, finished her career coming second in a Listed race. A few winners on the dam side.

Trainer note: First runner of 2021 Thunder Love won at 15/8 so worth keeping an eye on the betting, James Doyle is down to ride.

4: Charged Up for trainer Ollie Pears.

A 32,000 euro purchase. Dam Electric Feel was a decent performer for Marco Botti, highlight was winning the Radley Stakes at Newbury. Couple of winning offspring already, Glorious Caesar and Electric Love.

Trainer note: Hasn't had a fto winning 2yo in 66 runners.

5: Cuban Thunder for Dominic Ffrench Davis. One of three early entries for the trainer and Amo Racing. 150,000 gns purchase from the October Yearling Sales book one. Dam Grace Rafaela won Sto for trainer O'Callaghan over seven furlongs.

Trainer note: Doesn't have to many 2yo runners so nice to see big owners giving him a chance, had a 66/1 debut winner in 2014 with Jelly Monger, interesting.

6: Doddie's Impact for trainer Robyn Brisland. 6000gns purchase from the Goffs Sales. Related to Bake who won twice for Martyn Meade.

Trainer note: Had the third in the race last year Jiffy Boy with same owners. Can pop up with a big priced debutant winner. Captain Cisco won first timeout 50/1 for the trainer and owner combo.

7: Equiart for trainer Darryll Holland.

14,000 purchase. Dam won over six furlongs for Mick Channon.

Trainer note: One debut winner out of 24 the last couple of seasons.

8: Eyeros for trainer J Moore. By unraced dam Tildiyna.

Trainer note: Had one 2yo debut winner last season, Miss American Pie 28/1.

9: Go To Work for trainer David Evans.

19,000 gns purchase. Related to Babe Alicious who won a couple of races last year for Michael Appleby.

Trainer note: Normally bangs out lots of 2yos early season. Doesn't get many debut winners.

10: Havana Prince for trainer Tony Coyle. 8000 gns purchase. Related to Ascraeus who won three times but was pretty poor.

Trainer note: Poor record with debut 2yo winners

11: Indication Call for trainer Karl Burke. 42,000 gns. Related to Tudor Queen and Last Stand both average.

Dam is related to Karl Burke's Toocoolforschool who won the Group 2 Mill Reef Stakes.

Trainer note: 17 percent strike rate with debut 2yo winners, under 9/2 a positive.

12: Kalik for trainer Dominic Ffrench Davis. 60,000 euro foal and 300,000 euro yearling. Another Amo Racing early entry here. Half-brother to the George Boughey s Oscula who came third in the Albany Stakes in 2021, interesting running for top owners.

13: Loaded Gun for trainer Andrew Balding. 30,000 euro foal and 75,000 euro yearling. Related to Another Bertie who has won a couple but not a high level.

Trainer note: First 2yo Holguin won last year when supported. Doesn't have the best strike rate fto but April is the best month. Big price would be a negative.

14: No Sinner for Mr Brocklesby Bill Turner, always hoping he can roll back the years with another win here. 5000 gns purchase. Related to It's A Love Thing who who won for David Evans in 2021.

Trainer note: Been a while since he had a fto 2yo winner but would be a dream hey.

15: Old Chums for trainer Tom Dascombe. £35,000 purchase. Dam Magical Dreamer not a bad sort on the day winning over six furlongs.

Trainer note: New yard last year and it showed with handful of 2yos, interesting to see what he brings to the table this year

16: Part Time Britain for trainer David Evans. 21,000 gns purchase. Related to nice Italian colt Don Chicco who won fto on debut and went on to be a group winner, other offspring were poor.

17: Regal Fighter for trainer Robyn Brisland. 3,000 gns purchase who could have the assistance of jockey of the moment Billy Loughnane.

18: Saint Mathew for trainer Charlie Johnson. Half-brother to the Charlie Johnston trained Lamation who hasn't done much in four runs.

Trainer note: Most debut winners under 15/2.

19: Sankari for trainer John Quinn. £35,000 purchase. Dam Sankari Royle had a bit of speed, winning over five furlongs for trainer Johnny Murtagh.

Trainer note: Can pop up with a fto winner, most of them in May.

20: Tees Douge for trainer Adrian Nicholls. £25,000 purchase.

Plenty of winners in the family, I imagine for further down the line.

Trainer note: Not noted for fto 2yo winners.

21: The Bitter Moose for trainer Hugo Palmer. 140,000 gns purchased from book 1 at the October Yearling Sales.

Trainer note: If short would be significant.

22: Valadero for trainer Dominic Ffrench Davis. 250,000 euro purchase. Amo Racing again with it's third early entry.

23. Yorkshire Terrier for trainer Charlie Johnston. Related to Outstrip who won fto in 2021 over five furlongs.

24: Bellarchi for trainer Grant Tuer. 30,000 euro purchase. Dam won fto in France over five.

Trainer note: Not known for fto 2yo winners.

25: Mullingar Girl for trainer Mike Murphy & Michael Keady. 11,000 gns purchase.

Trainer note: Had a 40/1 placed fto 2yo last year out of six runners

Conclusion: Betting should be the key here and could be worth waiting and watching the market. Interesting Amo Racing won the first Irish 2yo race and this last year so I'm sure if the market speaks Valadero should be in with a shout. Worth keeping a note of the ones that aren't running Saturday.
