Tregoning Hopes Impressor Can Impress at Salisbury

To be honest, since Friday, I feel the 2-year-old racing has been disappointing. It has been hard to find strong bets. A couple of places on Saturday but nothing to get excited about. Windsor on Monday, I backed Ralph Beckett's Lucander who won by a neck. A nice bonus that the odds drifted from 4/1 to 6/1 before the off.

Sometimes, I feel my money is burning a hole in my pocket. I'm looking for a bet just for the sake of it. On Tuesday I did exactly that. Fair Pass looked like it had place claims written all over it but finished a disappointing fourth.

Thankfully, I have scanned over a few of the 2-year-old races on Wednesday and things are looking up.

At the time of writing, Reviette is forecast 7/2 but could be any price come Wednesday. The Kevin Ryan filly has no significant entries but made a promising debut at Beverley a few weeks back. Reviette had a few nice fillies in front of her that day and if she can improve on that run she will hopefully grab a place at least.

Good Job Power has finished behind a couple of good horses in the name of Cobra Eye and Treble Treble and I would be surprised if this Richard Hannon colt is not in the top three but the interesting one is the Mick Channon Bungle Inthejungle colt Aweemaweh. A bargain Basement buy at 15,500 euros in September last year. Mick Channon has given Aweemaweh a Group 2 Mill Reef Stakes entry and I am looking forward to seeing which way he goes in the market on debut.

Another nice race with a few potentially nice horses in. Too many trackers to mention here but the one that could sneak a place at least is the Marcus Tregoning colt Impressor who looked a future winner after an impressive debut in the European Breeders Fund EBF Maiden Stakes at Goodwood in July. Marcus Tregoning doesn't have many top 2-year-old winners but when he gives them a significant entry it's worth taking note. Last year, Mohaather was given a significant entry, and he won two Group races. With the likes of Stowman who I noted in my trackers after giving the hot favourite Ethic a race of it at Salisbury a couple of weeks ago, Smokey Bear and Bright Valentine as dangers, it's not a race to go mad on but one I will enjoy watching.

The Mark Johnston trained Africa Swift looks like being a short-priced favourite here after finishing fourth in a Class 2 race at Goodwood at the start of August. Another race not to go mad on with a few unexposed horses form the top yards. Thanks for reading and good luck.

  1. Enjoyable post. I think the soft ground has made life difficult and a few races have been quite competitive. I had a good look at Marco Botti's Fair Pass. I think the first three are fair horses which made life difficult. Also, Fair Pass wasn't helped by a wide draw and then pressing for the lead. The horse was keen last time out and I think it ws the same today. I don't think it was quite up to the standard of the first three but it really needs to settle to do itself justice.
