Sports Weekends Don't Get Much Better?

If my marriage survives this epic sports weekend I will be very surprised. If, you're like me and love to watch the sport I'm sure you have this weekend planned out already. First off the 83rd edition of the Masters' tournament started on Thursday and will end on Sunday night, luckily enough am on a late shift next week so don’t have to worry about getting up early if there is a late finish.

The first of the four major Championships is an ideal opportunity to have a bet because normally you can get a good run for your money with it lasting four days. This year I just had a bet on a couple of the more fancied golfers who the racing post tipped up, no each way bets for me just two straight win bets on Jon Rahm and Dustin Johnson (pictured) and at the time of writing this (Friday afternoon) both are well in the mix and hopefully I can relax Sunday night and enjoy a nice win.

Then, of course, we have a great weekend of racing with a cracking card at Newbury on Saturday. At 2.00 the Dubai Duty Free Stakes looks a great race for 3 YO fillies and a big outsider is Mick Channon's Modern Millie (trainer won this race last year with Dans Dream)who made her debut back in October but won impressively at odds of 9/4, so was obviously working well at home, another interesting point is she had an entry for the Moyglare Stud Stakes (Group 1) at one point last season, so I guess she was well thought of, but saying that this is a big step up in class for the Stoneham park Stud-owned filly and will have to be decent to win this against some proven Group runners.

Channon also runs another big priced horse in the 4.25 division 2 Maiden Stakes race, I will be interested to see if the market speaks in favour of City Wanderer. This 120,000 gns purchase is by Kodiac and was entered for a Class 2 race as a 2-year-old last season, he will have to be on top of his game to win first time against a few more experienced rivals and potentially smart newcomers.

I will also be watching the 5.00 Maiden Stakes with interest as another big priced horse runs here for trainer Eve Johnson Houghton, Kiefer was never a factor when a 100/1 shot last September in Class 2 at Goodwood and would have to leave that form well behind to stand any chance here.

Heer We Go Again runs his third race of the season already when he takes his chance in the 2:00 at Thirsk on Saturday, he sets the standard after finishing third last time out and running in the Brocklesby previously to that race.

I know we also have the Scottish National but one National is enough for me in one year, but a few of the lads from work have gone for a jolly boys weekend, so I hope they have a bit of luck while down there. I might just have a few small each way bets on a few of these. I can't finish without mentioning the football on Sunday which will be my highlight of the weekend with the best team in the world, Liverpool of course, taking on the Chelsea rent boys and it’s a must win for us if we stand any chance of beating City to the league this season. I will be taking a keen interest in the early kick-off to see if the mighty Palace can take a few points off the Mancs too.

What a weekend to look forward too, hope you have a good one and thanks for reading.
