Saturday Racing Update (16th July)

I don't get many days like the past two I can tell you, my first bet was Thursday when I backed the Joseph O'Brien trained Montesilvano at 9s. I'm never confident about a horse but was pretty sure Montesilvano could grab a place at least. The funny thing was I was that busy doing other stuff I forgot about the race until the last minute. The Holy Roman Emperor colt was in the lead as soon as I put the race on, yes definitely placed I thought as he was staying on the final furlong, to be honest he kept going and never looked like being beat, what a price as Monte ended up winning 11/2, it was also nice to have a winner for a change after seconds galore lately. 

Friday I wrote on my Twitter that the Owen Burrows trained Tarjeeh looked a nice each way bet at 8s but would be more confident if support came for the Churchill colt, I'd taken 8s but watched as the money did come eventually. I watched the race at work and was confident as he started 7/2. Jim Crowley is a great jockey and I always feel confident when he's on one of my fancies. Tarjeeh was away and Jim was sitting quietly, I could see him making ground up as my tracker Bresson took the lead, it wasn't instant from Tarjeeh but Jim Crowley had a good rhythm going and stayed on well to win comfortably in the end, fantastic! Two nice winners and happy days.

My other trackers included Silver Knott who will be better for the run after finishing fourth, Trillium won nicely for Richard Hannon but no bet at the price. I did have a few quid each way on my other tracker Tantalus who ran a great race to get placed at Haydock. I think you know your luck is in when you back a tracker from last year and she wins 11/1, the horse was the Karl Burke trained Breaking Light who I'd given last year but disappointed. A wind op and first time in a handicap showed why she was well regarded last year. 

Right onto my next trackers, I'm a bit late writing this and a few prices are gone already.

18.15 Doncaster

Royal Dress has been involved in two decent races, I will forgive the debut run as wasn't given a hard time. Royal Dress ran at Newmarket last timeout when sent off 11/2 from 8s. Pat Dobbs kept her towards the back cruising until no room to get through then running on all too late, I'm pretty sure she would have been involved in the finish. I think that was a pretty decent race and I would be disappointed if she couldn't get involved here, around 11/4.

19.00 Haydock

I do have the favourite Killybegs Warrior and Lord Uhtred as trackers here and both short in the betting. Particularly looking forward to Lord Uhtred who was pretty green at Yarmouth when third and staying on. Derek Thompson did give the Siyouni colt a good mention before the race so that jinxed that ha. Hopefully the Charlie Hills colt can make his mark here, was 2s.

13.42 Newmarket

No tracker this but I thought American Belle ran a sound debut for James Fanshawe and owner Fred Archer Racing, I always look out for this combination as they pop up with a nice one now and again. It looked like a professional debut at Doncaster to me when not given a hard time when finishing third to Ibiza Love who finished down the field in the Albany Stakes. Another short one at 3s.

Wednesday's Racing

Quick review of my last post. I did bet each way on the Karl Burke runner Poppy Carrew at Newmarket who was pretty keen and actually finished stone last, very disappointing to be honest. As for my other tracker Royal Dress, as per usual Pat Dobbs got into all kinds of trouble and flew late on, I'm pretty sure Royal Dress would have been challenging the winner at least, definitely keep an eye out for Royal Dress I'm not talking out of my pocket here either as I didn't bet on Royal Dress but Dobbs is one jockey who frustrates me at times. 

I've been waiting forever for Pure Dignity to run as I knew the Roger Varian filly was a good one. I mean the price tag alone was a give away plus nice pedigree and well entered last season. I don't normally bet win but I did on my 3yo to follow. The race started and Pure Dignity started well enough for her debut, the odds on favourite Light Of Peace led and looked to have it in the bag a furlong to go, fuck I thought money down the drain but Pure Dignity had other ideas as jockey David Egan got a great tune out of her and got up to win by a cosy length, get in you beauty! I'm looking forward to seeing where she goes next and how good she is.

Silencer should be winning soon after finishing second and odds on shot Clearpoint won easily enough for the Fahey stable.

Thirsk 13.50 29th June 

I've actually got in early with this £28,000 yearling. Jim's Cracker makes his second appearance after what I thought was a satisfactory debut at Doncaster 67 days ago, supported into 100/30 that day Jim's Cracker was away alright but got a bit outpaced at times until staying on steadily without challenging the leaders. The winner came fourth in the Norfolk and the third has won since. Personally anything over 9/2 is a negative for Jim's Cracker winning. I've actually took 11/2 each way but been well supported since that. 

Craven is an odds on tracker in the first leg at Thirsk. No bet at the price. 

I did have a couple of Irish trackers come through at Tipperary in the 18.10 called Vernet for Joseph O'Brien, who actually ran a decent race at Navan at the end of May. An amateur on board plus 12/1 at the minute has slightly put me off, we will see and the Aidan O'Brien favourite Hans Anderson is my other and could be very good. 

16.35 Bellewstown 

Another Irish tracker on Thursday called All Things Nice and again trained by Joseph O'Brien. You would think the Sioux Nation filly would have a chance here.

Friday's Horse Racing (24th June)

It's been a while since I last posted, you know how it is when life gets in the way, work, drinking, sports and then lack of motivation hasn't helped but here I am ready to write about a few trackers that have come through.

17.15 Newmarket

Nice race coming up here and eleven go to post in what looks like an open contest with the current favourite Pureness 5/1 for George Boughey and William Buick. I have two trackers in this, first is Royal Dress for Richard Hannon the Night Of Thunder filly played up in the stalls before her debut at Haydock last month and probably blew any chance she had. That was a decent race to be honest so I wouldn't be so quick to write her off. My other tracker is the one I've had a small each way bet on. Karl Burke unleashed a lovely prospect at Royal Ascot last week when Holloway Boy won the Chesham Stakes on debut, I'm pretty sure they thought a lot of this Ulysses colt and wouldn't have been anywhere near Ascot if they didn't like him, anyway Poppy Carrew is the one I've been waiting for after a satisfactory debut at York earlier this month. A 62,000 euro purchase for owners Nick Bradley and E Burke, attracted some late support on debut and went off 13/2, a touch slowly away and outpaced for her first time on the racecourse and nudged along by Clifford Lee for most of the race, Poppy Carrew didn't give up and stayed on the best the final furlong making up ground on the winner Mersea. I'm hoping a bit more clued up at the start today and she can be in the finish. A few potential nice horses here so one race not to go mad on. Around 11/2 now but I've got 13/2, any drift would be negative.

18.25 Newmarket 

I just noticed one tracker I've been waiting a good while for. The Dubawi filly Pure Dignity makes her debut for Roger Varian. Very well regarded last year as a 2yo so I was expecting to see her in a few of the top races this season. Nice pedigree and comes with a hefty price tag, a cool 2,500,000 euros to be precise. A bit of a shame only five runners plus goes against the odds on Appleby filly Light Of Peace, but as Pure Dignity is one of my 3yos to follow I've had a go at 5/2 but around 2s now.

Should be more to Hermana Estrella's liking now she drops in class. NR

16.03 Newcastle

Clearpoint looks above average for Richard Fahey and has good claims despite a win penalty here. No bet but looking forward to seeing how good he is.

Previews & Reviews 26 May

Merry Christmas one and all, I know it's not Christmas but it felt like after one of my trackers was given as a bet 365 boost by one of Santa's helpers in their office, more about that later let's look at my losing bets first. 

Nottingham 22 May 

My tracker was Immortal Beauty who I thought had an excellent chance of taking the fillies maiden. It didn't last long until I thought the complete opposite as she got upset in the stalls first and then came out hanging all over the place, it was plain to see something wasn't right and Hollie Doyle rightly took it easy on her to the finishing post. 

Beautiful Sunrise was my next at York against the odds on favourite Walbank, only had a small bet for interest, didn't last long the interest as Walbank absolutely made mincemeat of these with an instant turn off foot, impressive. 

Monday 13.40 Wolverhampton 23 May

What a day for me, Zero Carbon is one of my 3-year-olds to follow for the blog. Well regarded by Richard Hughes last year and one I was looking out for this season, given a educational ride on debut by Pat Dobbs. I was pretty confident about a place at least here but no price so I ended up doing a win bet at 3s which I thought was reasonable. As the betting sorted itself out Zero Carbon had drifted to 9/2, what to do hey? I cashed out and was going in at 9/2 until I saw they had Zero Carbon as a price boost and was 11/2, couldn't believe my eyes so went each way with a bigger stake and also threw my other tracker Voce Del Palio in an each way double for good measure. 

I'm always feeling uneasy when I do bigger bets. I'm not sure why because the betting bank is healthy at the minute. It was getting close to the Zero Carbon race. I had that uneasy feeling even though I was still pretty confident. The race started, Zero Carbon had the rail and Pat Cosgrove was out like a bullet, the well backed Green Man was poised to challenge with James Doyle in the seat, watching how they were moving I was more confident as Pat kicked on again, cmon Zero Carbon you beauty as he stayed on to the line winning a comfortable half-length, phew bet landed, heart rate dropping, thank God! 

The next was even more heart attack material as I was waiting on Voce Del Palio for the double, I had all but given up when stablemate Wujdaan quickened up a furlong to go but Voce Del Palio sprouted wings and flew with a rocket up its ass to win by a head, what a ride and what a day.

Few trackers tomorrow but tough day, I will just mention them because as always time is getting on.

16.40 Carlisle

Double O won me a few quid when I backed her on debut at Doncaster, was well-supported that day into 3s, quickly away despite being a touch keen, I thought she would win that day but didn't go through with her effort and the slow starting Parr Fire came from last to first to win. Trainer 2/6 at the track with second timeout 2yos. My other tracker is Mersea for trainer Grant Tuer, a consistent sort who will run her race. Looked to know her job at York last timeout but couldn't land a blow to the well touted Thunder Moor who won with a bit in hand with Mersea finishing in third, always a doubt of a horse regressing but the form looks good enough to be involved here. 

14.10 Haydock

Banddar has been supported overnight and rightly so after running in a very hot race at Ascot. The Saeed Bin Suroor runner finished fifth that day and the second and fourth have both won in good style. My tracker Maxi King won't be a pushover after finishing second at Nottingham to the impressive Garner. The David Loughnane Belardo colt definitely needed the experience as he was all over the place at times. I'm not too confident when I see a horse hanging but I'm willing to take another chance here. My other tracker is the Richard Hannon trained Royal Dress. 

Going to chance a small each way double here but not going mad.
