2-Year-Old Race Previews (6th September)

REVIEWS:

Not a bad day today with a few nice performances from my trackers.

I took 14/1 for Jamais Assez and Karl the Burke colt ran a lovely race to finish third at 15/2. Panic Room won impressively for my eye-catches and looks a nice type for owner John Dance.

A couple more caught my eye and I will put them in my eye-catches post next week.

Tracker: Seven Emirates

King Of The Klopp looks to have a great chance here after a much-improved performance last timeout against the horse that got everybody talking Mums Tipple. My tracker Seven Emirates was a 31,000 euro purchase for owner Ahmad Al Shaikh in May this year. The Karl Burke Dark Angel colt made his debut at Thirsk last month when a little uneasy in the betting. The 11/2 second favourite was up with the pace until tiring the final furlong in the soft going that day. The good to firm forecast could see him in a better light today plus a Group 1 Middle Park Stakes entry gives me hope he could make the frame in what looks a tough race. Betting could be the key here and I will have to check the market before betting.

17:30 Musselburgh 06 Sep 2019

Tracker: Handlebars

You can't get away from the favourite Yoshimi who has form that looks pretty rock solid to me. Handlebars from the Keith Dalgliesh yard was entered in the Brocklesby but never ran. I still think Footstepsinthesand filly could be alright after what was a fair debut over this course and distance 10 days ago. Slowly away that day and staying on without threatening the winner Red Treble. Should improve for the run but big ask against the hot favourite.

Trackers: Tulip Fields, Dusty Dream, Talking About You

I will mention only one here. Tulip Fields has bumped into a couple of nice types in her brief career so far. Even though she hasn't had her head in front yet make no mistake this is a nice filly that should get her first win soon. The Mark Johnston trained Golden Horn filly was beaten by the smart Richard Spencer filly Alabama Whitman on debut and then again touched off by another smart filly in the name of Vividly. The softer ground and extra distance should play to her strengths here and I expect a big run. Betting will be the key with my other trackers.

14:20 Haydock 06 Sep 2019

Trackers: Colouring, Jaaneh

Jaaneh looked to be given a learning experience by Jim Crowley on her debut at Yarmouth. The William Haggas trained Dubawi filly was slowest of the nine runners out of the stalls that day and playing catch up. Hard rode the first few furlongs and when Jim Crowley knew he wouldn't be involved in the finish he coasted home. Jaaneh had a significant entry before that race and will hopefully be a lot more clued-up today. Colouring needs a market check on debut.

Tracker: Opine

Best watched unless serious support in what looks a nice race.

19:10 Kempton 06 Sep 2019

Trackers: Charming Spirit, Via Veritas, Rakassah

I was expecting Charming Spirit to finish a bit closer the last timeout at Yarmouth after what was a promising debut. Maybe I'm being a bit unfair because the winner that day Jovial has a Group 1 entry for later this month. Could be worth an each-way shout. Via Veritas is a Michael Bell horse I have been looking forward to seeing. A $340,000 yearling who has a few nice entries. As always though you can't promise anything with unraced 2-year-olds, so I might sit this one out till the second start. Another newcomer from the Richard Hughes yard who is worth keeping an eye out for in the future is Rakassah the Night Of Thunder filly.

Thanks for reading and good luck.

2-Year-Old Race Reviews And Previews (5th September)

REVIEWS:

Not much to get excited about from my last post but here we go:

A couple of positive performances from two unraced trackers I mentioned. I noted Festival Day as a potentially smart 2-year-old and I will stick to that opinion after a promising debut, of course, I was a little disappointed that the Mark Johnston filly didn't win but as I always say you never know what to expect on debut from 2-year-olds. Slowly way but flew home late to finish second. Lady Lynette was far too keen and didn't stand a chance. Areehaa was another positive when giving the hot favourite Star In The Making a race of it at Salisbury and will be winning soon .

All You Wish and Lost Empire didn't do much but I will keep an eye out for All You Wish next timeout.

My headline horse Vintage Times ran a stinker. I had a small bet on the Tim Easterby filly but the extra weight was too much and she looks average, to be honest. Backing a horse with a win penalty is something I need to knock in the head. Always things to learn.

EYE-CATCHER UPDATE:

I noted Band Practice (Pictured) as an eye-catcher in my post a couple of weeks ago and she was back out again on Monday at Chepstow. A nice drift in the market made it a profitable day as she won easily. A lovely looking filly who is one to follow.

PREVIEWS:

14:20 Haydock 05 Sep 2019:

Tracker: Jamais Assez

Danyah looks a nice prospect for the Charlie Hills yard and even with a penalty could be hard to beat after a lovely debut at Nottingham in August. My only tracker in the race is the Karl Burke Invincible Spirit colt Jamais Assez who cost $125,000 as a foal. Pretty weak in the market for his debut back in July when sent off 8/1, Jamais Assez showed nice speed until fitness told the final furlong, and he was eased down by Ben Curtis. Bit of a worry that he has been off the racecourse since then but a couple of nice entries give me hope that as long as Jamais doesn't take a huge drift in the market he will be in the mix for a place at least. Karl Burke has great stats with his 2-year-old horses when priced under 9/2. A couple of interesting newcomers make it a race to look forward to.

14:50 Haydock 05 Sep 2019:

Trackers: Panic Room, Grand Bazaar

The 210,000 gns Golden Horn colt could be anything, to be honest. John Gosden does have a good record with his 2-year-olds in September so it wouldn't surprise me to see Grand Bazaar win here but Panic Room (Eye-catcher) could give the expensive purchase a run for his money. I noted Panic Room as a 2-year-old to follow after his latest run when looking like the winner until being collared late on by the impressive winner Lampang at Carlisle. Panic Room had to be hard ridden until staying on well in the closing stages and the extra distance is positive here.

14:40 Salisbury 05 Sep 2019:

Trackers: Mambo Nights, Shandoz

Mambo Nights has improved with each run so far this season. The 250,000 gns purchase needs to get some money back for owner Sheikh Mohammed Obaid Al Maktoum. The Richard Hannon trained Havana Gold colt looks to have a chance of making the frame at least after producing his best effort so far at Newbury the last timeout. Mambo Nights looked to have the race in the bag when nodded on the line by the well-thought-of Roger Charlton colt Quadrilateral.

Shandoz is a well-thought-of Golden Horn colt for the Roger Varian yard. Shandoz made a promising debut at Newmarket last month when looking professional throughout the race and will improve a lot after a given perfect introduction by jockey David Egan. Really looking forward to seeing Shandoz run.

15:10 Salisbury 05 Sep 2019: All Trackers

Class 2 race here so all nice prospects. I will mention just three. Unraced Shuraffa for the Charlie Hills yard. The well-entered Shamardal filly is well-worth keeping an eye out for here and in the future. Betting the key again with these unraced 2-year-olds. Interesting jockey booking with William Buick riding.

Thanielle is a 120,000 gns purchase from the Richard Hannon yard who ran a pleasing enough debut at Newmarket in August. Has a Rockfel Group 2 entry and should improve.

Alash Orda is an interesting Roger Varian filly who is a half-sister to Altyn Orda who won the Group 3 Oh So Sharp Stakes as a 2-year-old and has an official rating of 112 at present. Looking forward to seeing how this Kodiac filly runs on debut.

Thanks for reading and good luck.

4 Two-Year-Old Race Horses to Follow this Turf 2019

Four To Follow:

Continuing with my 2-year-old horses to follow.

Fox Duty Free will be a short price I imagine next timeout. The Andrew Balding Kingman colt was a 280,000 gns purchase in October last year. The King Power Racing owned colt was made favourite on his debut at Newbury in July. Fox Duty Free was slowly away that day and then to make things worse got hampered. Silvestre De Sousa came with a strong run with a couple of furlongs to go but couldn't quite catch the eventual winner Owney Madden. I don't think that was the strongest race but Fox Duty Free ran a great race despite the problems on his debut run. The fact he has been given a significant entry since his last run gives me confidence he should be winning his next race and is definitely one to keep an eye out for.

Jamais Assez is a horse trainer Karl Burke rates highly after what looked like a promising debut. The 190,000 euro Invincible Spirit colt wasn't really fancied on debut when an 8/1 shot. Jamais Assez was quickly away that day at Ayr and looked to know his job before tiring late on. A Group 2 Mill Reef Stakes entry gives me some encouragement that Jamais Assez will be more clued-up next timeout and hopefully, he attracts some market support.

Pierre Lapin has already run once and won once. The Roger Varian trained Cappella Sansevero colt could be winning again before the season ends. Purchased for Sheikh Mohammed Obaid Al Maktoum for 140,000 gns last October, this bay colt made his debut at Haydock in May and after running green he soon put the race to bed with an impressive turn of foot. His sectionals confirmed it was a pretty decent debut despite being an average race. Roger Varian has given Pierre Lapin some fancy entries and me for one will be looking out for his next racecourse appearance.

Skontonovski looks to be a surefire winner next timeout. The Richard Spencer trained Harbour Watch colt made a pleasing debut at Newmarket at the beginning of August. Purchased for £50,000 in August 2018 and owned by Rebel Racing Premier. Skontonovski must have been working well before his debut because he started off 7/2 second favourite to the eventual winner Lazuli. This looked a pretty nice race with the third-placed Ziggle Pops well-thought-of by Richard Hannon. Skontonovski was hampered at the start and checked when making his move a furlong out before running on again. Trainer Richard Spencer thinks very highly of Skontonovski and I expect a win won't be far away.

Horses to follow updates:

Abstemious (Won 11/8) was a short-priced winner for my 2-year-olds to follow. An impressive five-length victory for the Kevin Ryan trained gelding at York and will be looking to add to that victory in the coming months.
